History
Jr. Grandmaster Eddie Gibson, 8th Degree black belt, and wife Senior Master Theresa Gibson, 7th Degree black belt, collectively have over 75 years of experience studying and teaching Tae Kwon Do. In addition, their children Ashley, Danie, and Tanner have all obtained their 4th Degree black belts. The Gibson family moved to Forest Lake from Topeka, KS. about 25 years ago and quickly established a strong martial arts program. Their instructor, Grandmaster Chae Sun Yi, who came to the U.S. from Korea, continues to teach classes at the National Headquarters in Topeka. Over 300 people have obtained black belts in the time the Gibson's have been practicing in MN! Eddie and Theresa are grateful for their committed instructors and the growth of 5 other branch schools in MN (Lino Lakes, White Bear Lake, Shoreview, North Branch, and Duluth).
About Us:
Eddie is a School Psychologist and Principal, and Theresa is a para-professional, both working in schools/programs with students in Special Education. Combined with their line of work and their passion for teaching martial arts, Eddie and Theresa believe that Tae Kwon Do truly is for everyone. There are many female students, students with disabilities, and children, middle-aged, and seniors of various levels. We offer classes for all ages, kids only classes, a preschool program (Lil' Ninjas), and self-defense classes- all within a welcoming family atmosphere.
Tae Kwon Do Program: Tae Kwon Do can reach people in many different ways: for the Parent, it offers an opportunity for their child to improve their confidence, improve school life skills (increasing concentration/attention span and improving self-control), and instilling self-discipline. For families, it offers an opportunity to participate in wholesome activity together any day of the week and learn and support each other. For children, it offers learning an exciting, fun martial art with an emphasis on kicking techniques with other children, while not being compared to one another. For people with challenges or disabilities (Attention Deficit, Autism, Cognitive deficits, physical impairments, etc.) it offers opportunities to be successful, build social skills, and grow confidence while making friendships in a supportive, understanding atmosphere.
Lil' Ninjas
A unique pre-school martial arts program, specifically designed by the Gibson's, to enhance your child's physical, mental, and social development in fun and motivating ways. Some of the most important years of your child's development is between the ages of 4 to 6 years of age. Our Lil' Ninjas curriculum focuses on improving a child's basic listening, social, and motor skills. These are Focus, Teamwork, Control, Balance, Memory, Discipline, Fitness, Coordination, and Respect.
*All classes are taught by nationally certified instructors who are ranked 3rd degree black belt or higher. All students receive 1:1 instruction before joining classes. The different programs offer unlimited classes for one price, multiple family discounts, and classes for children, families, and adults. You can even drop in to one of the other branch schools at no extra charge. Whether it is learning self-defense and discipline, improving confidence, focus, a way to bond with your partner/kids, or just a fun way to exercise every part of your body- Sun Yi's Academy of Tae Kwon Do is for you!
