This really isn't all that bad--honestly, it's actually a good deal. I would compare it to a "dollar theater," except they show movies that are currently in the large theaters. We saw the new Mission Impossible there and I didn't really have any complaints. Sound is admittedly not stellar and the seating is typical "small theater," non-amphitheater style. When you can go see a movie for $5 any time before 5 p.m., $7.50 after that and $5 anytime on a certain day of the week, you can't complain. A daytime ticket in the city will cost $12 or $13 easy. I get really tired of paying that much. UPDATE: I'm pretty sure they've updated the projection and sound in at least some of the theaters now. The screen I saw Divergent on last week was dirty and/or scratched - so that was annoying. It's really quite alright...the patrons, however, are generally a loud and rather irritating crowd. Seriously, humanity, special circle in Hades reserved for those that talk and exclaim loudly at the movies. I'd try a Saturday matinee, not a Friday night show.
I love this place. The people are amazingly friendly and it's located in an area where there are an incredible amount of places to eat. It's so easy to get too, #7 train or Q32 bus and it's so inexpensive compared to places in Astoria or Forest Hills. Yeah, so the floors are a little sticky and the seats are not all that comfortable. The price and location and friendliness make up for it..
Only good thing about this theater is the prices. Went to see Gravity here in 3D and the ticket was the cheapest I've paid for a 3D ticket anywhere. Bad thing is you get what you pay for. Extremely tiny theater with tiny screen. Thin non soundproof walls so you hear everything in the next theater and in this case construction in the theater below. The AC was blasted and emergency exit doors were open only before the movie started so it was extremely freezing and everyone in the place was complaining but the rude employees shrugged it off and did nothing I seriously wore gloves and jacket the whole time. I'd go here again only if I'm in the area and want to see a cheap film when I'm killing time and don't care about the experience but would never go out of my way to go here.
The theaters are small, but the picture quality is good. For the price I don't think you'll find a better place, as long as you're not watching a quiet movie with a loud one next to it. The walls are thin and let noise through.
This is movie going like I remember it growing up in a small town - not a lot of planning required and nor a lot of investment. The place is small, homey, clean and I simply don't know of another place showing first run cinema for under $10. The picture & sound quality were not wanting, either. Since there aren't 42 screens or a subway running right next to your head, you don't have to worry about noise bleed. The only caveats I can think of are that it is a cash only spot not a huge problem since there are banks right on the same strip and the theater I was in had a lamp right by the door so there was heavy light bleed whenever it opened. Other than that, there was really nothing to complain about. The next time something is out I want to see, I'll be checking to see if it playing there before I go to one of the Manhattan multiplexes.
It is the cutest theater!! The area of town is up and coming with newer, cleaner restaurants and shopping. Nostalgia kicked in immediately. From the single ticket seller, cash only so remember to get some out, to purchasing concessions prior to handing over the tickets. Instead of walking up tons of stairs, which is the norm for the big multiplex theaters, there is a ramp down towards the screen for seating. The only complaint was the bathroom being in the basement with steep stairs to traverse. It is an old building in New York and that is to be expected.
I love it, I can understand it doesn't meet the standard movie theaters in the city. But, I love its deal. All I want to see a movie in cheap price, and a 3D movie in $10. I don't think there are no theaters out there that give more bargain price than this one. So, thumbs up to "Sunny Side Center Cinemas." Imran
this is the WORST movie theater I've ever been to. Sadly I live in the neighborhood so it's convenient and cheap, but the staff are rude, disrespectful, the food is stale, the bathrooms disgusting AND worst of all the screens have holes, the sound is off and once we were even shown a BOOTLEG copy of a movie that had a green line in the center the entire time. I complained and wanted my money back and the staff refused. So I refused to leave, and they called the police! This place is gross and should be bought out by someone who cares. DO NOT SUPPORT THEM!!!!
The theater is a good "no-frills" place to see an inexpensive movie in the city, but I'm surprised more reviewers aren't talking about the audiences. I have been constantly shocked that a lot of the local people who attend seem to not understand basic social skills. Don't see a movie here you know will be crowded especially with younger kids. The people converse at full volume and even talk back to the screen. During one movie, a classless man answered his ringing cell phone -TWICE! Also, a group of hoodrats brought a whimpering infant to The Hunger Games and saw nothing wrong with this. Go if you don't want to pay $14 for a film, but don't be surprised when you're surrounded by trash.
Probably between fair - good cinema, although my ticket miraculously "disappeared" But it's good for a cheap way to watch a movie, so I wouldn't expect great service. Not really trusting the food conditions; Eat at your own risk Wouldn't recommend it to others, unless they are looking for a cheap price.
