This is the Facebook contact page for the Sunset Beach Police Department in Brunswick County, NC.
Our Department is staffed with fourteen (14) officers who deliver the highest level of professional police services possible. Several of our officers hold the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate. This award is part of the Law Enforcement Officers Professional Certificate Program which was established by the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission as a method by which dedicated officers may receive statewide and nationwide recognition for education, professional training, and on-the-job experience.
The officers of our department continually strive to increase their knowledge and competence in the field of law enforcement. Each officer is certified in the use of necessary equipment and skills such as radar, breath testing instruments, and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, all of which require regularly scheduled recertification. Beyond this training, officers have a plethora of educational opportunities afforded them through the North Carolina Justice Academy, a division of the North Carolina Department of Justice, and a nationally accredited law enforcement training institution.
Also required by the Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission is a yearly in-service training program. This program is in place to ensure proficiency in specific topical areas. In the past, all in-service training was obtained through the community college. The Criminal Justice Education and Standards Commission has now implemented the position of In-Service Training Coordinator. This person administers the delivery of courses, selects and schedules instructors, monitors presentation of courses, evaluates instructor performances, and keeps records of all activities. Our department is proud to have on staff two In-Service Training Coordinators. Both are General Instructors and one is a Specialized Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor while the other is an Explosives and Hazardous Materials Emergencies Instructor. With these instructors in place, the department is able to keep all in-service training in-house.
The Sunset Beach Police Department strives to safeguard the lives and property of the people we serve, to reduce crime, and to enhance public safety while partnering with our community to improve their quality of life. We are committed to do so with honor and integrity while conducting ourselves with the highest ethical standards.
