Description

Sunset Hill Farm County Park is a hub of activity in Porter County. We offer a variety of events and festivals, hiking trails, camps, field trips and fitness programs year round. Whether you are a hiker or a birdwatcher, a runner or a gardener, a parent with active kids or an enthusiast of antique farm equipment, we have something for you at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Many of our buildings, our shelters, our campground, our gazebo, and our amphitheater are all available for rentals.

The park began as a fully functional farm and private residence, purchased by Colonel Robert Heffron Murray and his wife, Sue, in 1934. The original property consisted of 80 acres. Within a year of living there, the Murrays had 1,000 chickens and sold eggs and broilers to local residents. During its most productive period, the farm also produced 400 gallons of milk a day.

The property continued to grow, until it reached its current size of 238 acres. After Colonel Murray passed away in 1972, his estate donated the land to Porter County. Now, thousands of people enjoy Sunset Hill Farm County Park every year thanks to his generous legacy.

This park has a cool nature playground, lots of open space, a variety of trails, and small activities throughout. We went in the day so not for the Christmas lights, and we saw decorated Christmas trees, a story walk, and a miniature train set up though it wasn't running when we went. There was no entrance fee 11am on a weekday in January. Playground: The nature playground is super cool! There are tree stumps, an open teepee of tall branches, a small "typical" play structure, and a variety of other play areas. There was no one else there when we went on a January morning. Restrooms: There are restrooms in a permanent building, but they were shut for the season when we went in January.
Fantastic Christmas display every year. The kids and I go every year several times a year! A great tradition we love to continue. There is a box to donate we do and hope everyone that enjoys this light show will too so it can continue for years to come! Turn off your lights for the best effect! Usually they are playing Christmas music, but I usually just play it in the car. I wish they would bring back the fireworks lights they were my favorite!*̣̥·͙̥‧̩̥࿌ིྀ྇˟͙˟͙࿌ིྀ྇‧̩̥·͙̥̣*̣̥
Great music fest! Next year, have better signage like Bonarroo please.
Had an enjoyable day at the park event we attended. Clean, fun tractor ride around the park to see the colorful leaves. Close to get to for a power walk or leisurely stroll.
Beautiful county Park with rolling hills, prairie views, woods, wide grass trails and ponds. Very family friendly with cute playgrounds and farm animals. Pet-friendly hiking. Quiet, peaceful, and a great place for easy to moderate hiking. Beautifully maintained. Highly recommend.
This event was highly disorganized and the balloon ride was very short and not as advertised but we still enjoyed getting to experience it since it was our first in a hot air balloon. Hopefully in the future the get this event organized better. Park was beautiful.
My first and only time going here was for the Hot Air Balloon Fest. So this review will be a half and half review. The park is nice and from what I seen they have a camping are as well. It's very spacious and has plenty of room to go discover different areas. The Hot Air Balloon fest was a horribly ran and I'm not sure I would visit it again. I would however check out the park and look into the camping there.
Awesome light displays. Drive all the way through and park to the side at the end to take pictures or donate money. Cool idea and good thing to do at night with kids.
Beautiful park that's great for kids. Has an area with goats and chickens that the kids can pet. Also has a train feature. Nice place to go hiking.
This is THE place for festivals. It is a great place for hiking with over seven miles of hiking over 19 kinds of soil. There are so many festivals. There are Sunset & FULL MOON hikes once a month. There are veteran hiking groups on the first Saturday of every month at 10:45 AM CST. Hiking events at IndianaDunesHiking dot Com
