It's a nice campground and they sell firewood. Showers and bathroom were okay but the water had a sulfer eggy smell. Their was also a park on the other side the was nice with lots of set up for propagating native flowers. Playground: Large play ground and disc golf course. Picnic area: Lots of picnic space.
Great family camp ground. RV and tent sites. Electric is available. 5$ for firewood, sales end at 6 pm. Sites are reasonably priced. They have showers and a playground.
The work done here over the years is amazing. The restoration of the creek, and the grounds back to natural and native plants is beautiful. The facilities are great, and the on site ranger was a great guy to have available for the help. The conservation board was great and helpful through the process of planning a group outing, and made accommodations for us to be able to make it happen. Regular campers were around, and very friendly. As long as dogs are on leash and we’ll behaved, they are more than welcome. There was a random dog that was wondering through the night, but it looked as though it may have been a pet from a neighboring property. Only so much can be done in that regard. I cleaned out the fire pit when I arrived, to find trash, and a bunch of batteries that were buried in the ashes. Which is disheartening to see that guests of the park treat it that way, when so much care has been taken to upgrade it, and provide the opportunity to enjoy. Also a major highlight of the trip was the lightning show we got to experience, only negative was the 5” of rain, and slight risk of tornado. But I guess I’ll let the park off easy on the lack of control over the weather, because they made up for it in every other aspect. Restrooms: Need a good power washing on the inside of the vaults, but not overly stinky, and not messy overall in the restroom itself. Dog-friendliness: As long as dogs are friendly, and respectful, they are more than welcome. On leash. The only issues with dogs, were a group tht was letting them run off leash in the creek, and one ran straight into traffic. And there is a random dog that patrolled all night, I’m assuming looking to clean scraps off the picnic tables, and he was kind of a jerk.
This well maintained county park is set in an area of large deciduous trees that provide shade and features water and electric sites and a dump station. Sites have a table and fire ring and firewood is available. A park that is connected is for day use and has several playgrounds and a trout stream. As is common with government run campgrounds the bathhouse is devoid of any aesthetic appeal. The concrete floors in the push button showers are stained rust colored, perhaps from iron in the water? The water has a strange smell. The nozzles spray irregular patterns. Most of the hooks in the shower are broken off and there is no place in the shower to put things like soap and shampoo. The playground is in the adjacent day use area. The area is beautiful and Dubuque is easily accessed.
We stayed mid week in Sept. Very quiet. The only way to reserve a site is online, yet even though we had a confirmation and a site number we had to check in. Sites are level and ours, site 1, was roomy.
This is by far one of my family's favorite places to visit. It has such great amenities, clean and well kept. There is plenty for the kids to do, and we look forward to going again and again.
So the campground is a good price and has potential. There was trash all over, which is sad. Mostly locals staying here with the weekend party scene and quite during the week. The showers were not very good. Park was nice. One bar of Verizon. Wifi can be accessed from some of the camp. There is a spot on the river the kids all swim in. Sites are a little close together. People here are nice though, including the host. $5 for 12 pieces of wood. They have a dump station. Water and electric at each site. A few steep hills to get to the entrance of the park, either way.
I love this park!!! It's has 2 nice playgrounds, room for Frisbee, bike riding around the park. It was always my favorite growing.
Loved my Large campsite, slept in a Hammock & a tent Creek just behind for hot day swimming Park close by Firewood available
