Taqueria Santa Rosa

About

Real Mexican Food!

Description

History...
Francisco Sahagun headed north from his small town of El Molino, Mexico, in 1981 to make some quick cash to pay off some debts. He made the cash, but it wasn't until two years later that things really started to take off.
Once a subsistence farmer in Mexico, Sahagun spent the next 17 years building a restaurant business and today is the patriarch of a family-run chain of eight taquerias and restaurants with 80 to 100 employees.
Five of the restaurants are called Taqueria Santa Rosa and are scattered from Sonoma County to Ukiah. In Addiction, the Sahagun family operates three restaurants, including a brand new venture.
Sahagun started the business slowly after moving his wife and six children from Mexico to the North Coast in 1983, working to save money, he worked has a gardener during the day and in restaurant at night, while his wife worked as a house cleaner.
Sahagun purchased his first business in 1987, now Taqueria Santa Rosa on Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa CA. When he started in business, his youngest daughter was 15 and all the children worked in the business. It was crowded, which led the business to expand, over and over again. Now 65 and semiretired, Sahagun grew his business not because of one single thing, but a combination of elements. Like a lot of immigrant families that come to the United States to seek their fortune, the Sahagun's pooled their resources.
They had to borrow money from family and friends to start the business. In their case their biggest resource, then and now, has been an abundance of hard workers: All six children work in the business. Also, the key was a good timing. There are about 30 Taquerias in the county today and scores of Mexican restaurants.
But when Francisco started his Taquerias in the county, they were a new thing. They offered fresh, fast food-tacos and other simple Mexican dishes at low prices. The family business now employs about 80 to 100 people, according to Sahagun.
The Sahagun's expansion coincided with a rise in the Latin population in the past decade. Although a ready population of Latino consumers helped their business, their success depended on cross-over consumers because about half of their customers are non-latinos. Eight restaurants in 17 years is a good track record, but there were some early failed endeavors that taught the family valuable lessons that the Sahagun acknowledged.
After the fifth Taqueria, the Sahagun's decided to expand beyond the Taqueria concept, and so there's Don Pancho's in Petaluma, which offers a more expanded menu with sit-down service. The key to Sahagun story is working together, every one works for the common cause. In the addition to the restaurants, the Sahagun's have two trucks that make regulars runs, one through Santa Rosa and other in Windsor, serving a lunchtime clientele.
"The Sahagun's family success is to honesty and hard work. This is the land of opportunity, if you work hard and are honest you are going to make it in this country. There is the American dream and we just want to say one thing: Gracias."

You know the food is good when their Birria is on point homie!! This place’s flavor was delicious!! I could eat a whole plate of the queso birria!!! Yummm. A little difficult to pull into the parking lot when you coming from the wrong direction, but if you look at the maps and get it right, you will be ok. My kiddo got a bean, rice and cheese burrito, we got a taco salad the shell wasn’t the tastiest tho and there could have been more toppings and a super burrito. Everything was pretty good, but the queso birria is what I’ll be coming back for!!! Mmmmm. Vegetarian options: You can ask them to add or take away things from your food if you have restrictions etc. Kid-friendliness: There’s an outside area to sit and eat, and inside everything is brightly decorated and the people are friendly and it’s like you are sitting down with one big family here. Parking: There’s not a ton of parking but it’s decent.
Just amazing food and owners/staff. Visiting from Philadelphia and was highly recommended by family. Will be back again!Food: 5/5
Worst place ever, I ordered Huevos Rancheros this is what I get, without salsa either when I paid for extra chips and extra salsa, the bags of chips had literally 4 chips and the salsa less that an half. I had to drive to return the order because on the phone they said they can't do anything. I show them what I had and what I paid and their excuse was, sorry the owner never changed the menu. So we sent what we thought you wanted.
Just went in for some sides for a birthday dinner for my girl. The service was excellent, the food was really good and I love the atmosphere and decor. Will definitely come back to try the whole menu because the prices are hard to beat.Food: 5/5
I have been eating at Taqueria S.R for 26 years they have the same cook so the food is consistently good I've never had a bad mealFood: 5/5
Food and service was garbage they are inconsiderate and do things half a**. Had to return my burrito 2 times. Would not recommend this place at all. Worst money ever spentFood: 1/5
I lived nearby and was a regular for years. Now that I’ve moved 10 miles away, I still make the drive when I can. I love the enchilada/taco or enchilada/tamale combos. The food is fresh, well seasoned and well prepared and the salsa is excellent.
We always stop here when traveling up to Humboldt County. Very good food and huge portions - we don't need dinner after this!
Place was a little hared to find passed it up, made U turn and found it. There was an issue with homeless people but the Sheriff was there to get it under control. Food was great.Food: 5/5
I really enjoyed the 2-enchilada combo I got. Non-spill packaging, large portions, flavorful rice & beans. I like that they offer ground beef enchiladas too - they probably aren't traditional, but I love em. Not a huge fan of their free chips, but good salsa. My partner got the carne asada super burrito and said it was really good. We'll definitely be back soon.
