Tawfiq Islamic Center (TIC) is a religious, educational and charitable nonprofit organization registered in Minnesota under chapter 317A. It is a nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization established to serve the Muslims and other peoples living in Minnesota
Historical Background
The Oromo people are the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia and they are believed to be the second largest group in Africa. The Oromo people account for more than 40% of the 60 million total population of Ethiopia. Some members of the Oromo Muslims, who arrived in Minnesota in early 1990s, felt the need to maintain their cultural identity & heritage. Finally, after many efforts, the community bought Masjidu Tawfiq in 2004. Since 2006, Masjid Tawfiq is known as Tawfiq Islamic Center, and in 2007 it became a Faith-Based organization with 501 c (3) IRS Compliant.
The mission of Tawfiq Islamic Center is to promote Muslim individuals and community development through social and educational programs in light of the Quran and Sunnah.
