This place is gorgeous! It's about an hour drive from our home in South Lexington. We had a campout there with a troop of one of my Children's. The primitive camping area is clean and very well maintained. Nice s'more area around the campfire! We did not encounter any Critters but we keep a really clean camp area. Shower houses were not spotless but very nice and well maintained in terms of mechanics. Laundry room was clean and well maintained. Fishing off of the boat dock was really nice and convenient. Restrooms: Clean and well maintained restrooms and the showers worked great! The water was extremely hot though in there.
Sites spaced a good distance from each other. Very clean. Bathhouse in good order. Campground great for walking with a couple of trail points accessible.
Nice State Park. Lots of kids parks, boating, fishing, hiking trails, horse back riding trails. We camped here for four nights. Sites had water and electric. They were large and well maintained
Overall this is a nice campground for primitive camping. The majority of the sites are spaced out and private but unfortunately I couldn't find any pictures online of the sites so the one we got was not private. We stayed at site #4 and it is best suited for a group of friends because your neighbors are 10-15 yards away with no trees or anything in between. The biggest issue with site #4 is there is no picnic table. Luckily we were only staying one night so not a big deal but there was no mention of it on the booking website Reserve America. Aside from that, it is well kept and the bath house was pretty immaculate for such a full weekend. Several playgrounds nearby if you have kids to occupy. The main overall issue is the lack of staffing. I'm not sure if it's the usual or if there is a lack of staff in general but we got in shortly after 7PM and there was no ranger or staff to be found to get firewood. No honor system or anything so we had to venture out to find some after we got our tent up because the main office was closed as well. As a heads up, the Dollar General does not sell wood nor does the new Lakecity Mart gas station. We found a large white house/business of some sort that had an honor system and it was $10 for a massive bundle of wood. Oh and when we left on Sunday, as of about noon, there still wasn't any staff anywhere in the park that we saw. Not sure what was up with that. Some of the hiking trails were well marked and up kept but some others were not so if you aren't good with navigation, choose wisely. Biggest issue we had was with the Gazebo Loop Trail/Pioneer Trail. Several spots were overgrown and not marked so you had to guess a little bit until you ran back into a well worn trail. Didn't do any lake activities but the water looked nice and there was a lot of activity on it. Nice boat ramps as well. Overall a nice stay but choose your site wisely. I took several pictures of each site to help others in the future. I didn't get site 7 or 10 because they were occupied but they are pretty nice as well but 10 is slightly open and not as secluded.
Great camping but don't even bother trying any of the hiking trails attached to the park. They are labeled that they are not maintained but a few of them don't even exist they are so bad. The .6 mile Gazebo trail turned into a 2 hour struggle to maintain our sense of direction and another 2 hours after picking the 45 yes 45 ticks off of us and our dogs. If you just want to sit at the campsite between distillery tours, this place is perfect. If you are looking to enjoy the outdoors close to your camping, go somewhere else.
Taylorsville lake has a lot to offer everyone in the family. Fishing, hiking trails near and around the lake, horse park and trails, easy boat ramps and very clean bathrooms. The town of Taylorsville is clean, historic, and everyone is friendly. Weekend yard sales, farmers markets, and everything is close to the campground.
Overall we had the best week of camping and it was our best experience at any Kentucky State Park campground so far. We loved being able to rent boats at the marina and everyone was so friendly! Only complaint is that the bathrooms at the campground need more attention. The womens was out of toilet paper for almost 2 days. And the trash was only emptied once the entire week we were there.
We stayed for 2 nights at the campground in our Class A motorhome. The host at the guard gate were very nice. The grounds were kept nice and the camp sites are spacious and ours was wooded. The website makes this place look really nice with lots to do but not the case. You can only swim by the dam which is at a different part of the lake. Thought we were getting a sewer site but no. And I didnt see any sites with sewer. Didn't find any trails to walk on and if you dont have a boat or a horse their isnt anything at all to do. They do have two playgrounds for kids to play on but thats it. The womans bath house near us was clean for the most part but my husband said the mens was dirty. Its very outdated and the shower curtains don't cover the entire shower. They dont charge but may have funds for updates and shower curtains if they did. Verizon cell reception did not exist and no WiFi offered. Nearest town is 5 miles away. It was ok for a short layover.
One of the single best campgrounds we’ve been to in America. Large sites with water and electric, easy to park and get set down. The playground was nice and the restrooms were clean and well built. Will absolutely come again. Awesome side note: this place is almost equidistant to all the major distilleries on the bourbon trail!
Great fishing, clean restrooms, lots of hiking and outdoor opportunities. Above all, the staff were simply wonderful and made us feel welcome as campers. Highly recommend a visit!
