Dr. Joseph Ricotta is a nationally and internationally renowned expert in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery. He brings years of valuable experience working at the nation's leading institutions such as Yale, Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, and Cleveland Clinic to his current role as the CEO and Medical Director of the Vascular Institute of Atlanta, as well as Associate Professor of Surgery at the Georgia Regents University/University of Georgia School of Medicine.
Dr. Ricotta has garnered national and international recognition as an innovative pioneer and thought leader in Vascular Surgery. He was the first surgeon in the Southeast United States and is one of a few in the world to perform Endovascular Robotic Surgery. He is the first surgeon in the United States with FDA IDE approval to create and implant custom modified endografts in high risks patients with complex aortic aneurysms and was the first in Georgia to perform drug coated balloon angioplasty. In addition to providing the entire spectrum of state of the art vascular and endovascular clinical services, Dr. Ricotta has authored over 175 publications, been an investigator in over 60 clinical research trials, and has delivered over 300 lectures nationally and internationally.
Dr. Ricotta has received numerous awards and has been repeatedly elected as a U.S. News and World Report and an Atlanta Magazine “Top Doctor” as well as one of “America’s Best Doctors” by Castle Connolly, awarded to the top 1% in the nation. He been repeatedly chosen as a “Top Surgeon” in the United States, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery.
