Tennessee State University Department of Educational Leadership

About

We, as a community of scholars, prepare effective, innovative, and culturally responsive educational leaders who are capable of transforming organizations.

Description

Are you an educator who aspires to move into strategic and supervisory leadership? If yes, then this program is for you.

We are proud of our graduates who are among the best in the state and the nation. Students who have completed our programs have pursued and excelled in professional careers such as assistant principals, principals, teacher leaders, higher education administrators, directors, professors, superintendents, chancellors, and vice presidents.

The department offers three degree programs: Masters of Education (M.Ed.), Education Specialist (Ed.S.), and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.). Our degree programs combine both conceptual and field-based experiences at the advanced level. All degree programs are approved by SACS and NCATE. All administrative licensure programs have been recommended for full approval by the Tennessee Department of Education. The department also has membership with prestigious organizations, such as University Council of Educational Administrators (UCEA) and the Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate (CPED), which makes it among the best in the nation.

As you walk the hallways of our College, it is not unusual to hear voices say, “It’s a great day to be at TSU.” Whether you are a prospective student, a current student, an alumnus(a), or a friend of the College, I hope you will revisit our website to stay abreast of activities in the College on our journey of excellence. More importantly, as you consider where to continue your education, where to work, or to whom to invest your funds, I hope you will return here or call us to share your interests and ideas. After all, our doors are open and excellence awaits you . . .

You’ll benefit from our strong academics, outstanding faculty, supportive staff, and top-notch facilities for teaching and learning as you make yourself at home within TSU’s exciting and diverse educational community.
