Marriage, Family and Individual Counseling
-Marriage Counseling-
Couples are often caught in a never-ending cycle of repeating the same arguments, conflicts and unhealthy patterns of interaction with no resolution in sight. Couples Counseling can help. Teresa has a doctorate in Marriage and Family Counseling, is a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and has worked with couples for 30 years. When couples come in for counseling, they learn to communicate more effectively with each other. They can also look at what they each bring into the marriage from the family they grew up in that may be influencing their relationship with each other now. Specific issues can be addressed such as parenting, finances, step-family issues and infidelity. Partners typically come into the counseling sessions together, although individual sessions can be scheduled when requested. Couples practice new ways of relating to each other during sessions and when they are at home between sessions. Questions of whether partners truly want to remain together can be explored, as well as ways to make relationships stronger, happier and more loving. Marriage Counseling can help couple to create the kind of marriage that couples have always hoped for.
-Family Counseling-
Family Counseling is often helpful when there is a child or an adolescent who is having a problem. Family Counseling can include any combination of family members being present during a session. A child can be seen alone and at other times with one or both parents. The entire family can be seen together and parents can work together on parenting issues. Seeing an individual in the context of the family can be a powerful way of achieving relief from symptoms. Step Family work can also be achieved with Family Counseling. Teresa’s has a doctorate in Marriage and Family Counseling, is a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), and has been providing Family Counseling for 30 years.
Family Counseling can help with a wide variety of problems including children’s behavior problems, depression, anxiety, addiction, eating disorders and a range of other problems. Since the individual with the symptoms is imbedded in a family system, working with the entire family can be a highly effective means of relieving symptoms and resolving problems
-Individual Counseling-
Individual Counseling can be helpful for a wide variety of Psychological Problems including depression, anxiety, alcoholism and other addictions, eating disorders, traumatic life events and PTSD as well as for life events such as divorce, death in the family, career transitions, and changes in life circumstances. In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Paine teaches meditation techniques and helps clients make needed lifestyle changes such as establishing healthy eating and exercise routines. Spiritual issues can also be addressed. Dr. Paine has been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an effective technique for resolving trauma and EFT, in which clients are taught a technique to use at home to ease psychological and physical symptoms. This technique uses tapping on acupuncture points and is often highly effective.
