When one of my grandsons underwent over 20 hours of surgery over multiple weeks to remove a tumor in his face and neck at Texas Children's Hospital, the hospital did everything it could to make life easier for us, his parents and his siblings, while keeping him safe. As an urgent patient at Texas Children's Hospital, my grandson had virtually no wait time for appointments and surgery. His first appointment was within 14 hours after his tumor was discovered in Nacogdoches, Texas. In four weeks, he saw multiple specialists multiple times, was operated on during a holiday weekend, was operated on in the middle of the week, and was never kept waiting for life-saving care. The doctors, at Texas Children's Hospital, saved his life. The hospital is clean and well-maintained. Valet parking is validated free on surgery days. On other days, valet parking was $13. During surgery, there are lounges where the family can get free coffee, tea, and snacks. There is a Ronald McDonald House on site, for discount lodging. Recommended! Note: My grandson rotated through three separate buildings at Texas Children's Hospital, but all are connected into one huge medical complex.
Best experience for my child ever!!!! Best time to go is early in the a.m !!! I had no wait and they took care of my child!!! She was in serve pain the the nurses and doctors made her comfortable as possible!!! I highly recommend this hospital for kids!!!
The nurses at the front desk in the ER are unsympathetic, dismissive, and rude. Decided to go to another hospital because I got a bad feeling from them. Reading these reviews, I think I made the right decision. Thank God my son was not in serious condition and I had the luxury to find another hospital. They are more interested in talking to each other about nonsense than demonstrating one of their four core values listed on the Texas Children’s Hospital website. Which is, “ Live Compassionately”. I did not feel compassion. Even while informing one of the nurses I was going to leave. She just said “okay go.” Ridiculous. Even if the wait is long…reassuring, sympathetic, kind words can potentially put a parent at ease mentally. Took me a while to write this review because I know how many lives this hospital saves daily. This is why I’m giving 3 stars, but the front desk staff in the E.R. needs better training on how to treat patients. Don’t get so desensitized that you forget proper bed side manner.
My nephew went there with a fever he been having for almost two weeks. I told my sister that this is a good hospital and she travel 2 hours for he son to get help is what we thought. She arrived at 2pm and said they were packed and the lady kept telling her a couple more hours then we will see you 5 hours passed and no one saw the baby so by my nephew caught another fever and sister had to ask for something the lady said a couple more hours it was 9pm no one seen him so at 11pm My sister left and didn't get home until after 1am because she travel.i will not have my baby here not good customer support
AVOID THIS CHILDREN’s HOSPITAL if you do not care for your time being wasted. I went here to check in my baby who had a fell from the bed. We waited for four hours then I went up to the desk and asked them for a time estimate. Took a good while for two nurses who were bantering with each other, which by the way I was standing directly in front of to acknowledge me. Then she told me the wait would be 10 hours. I asked her why they don’t inform parents coming in to check in their children of the wait time in the first place, so that they can make an informed decision to wait or to go somewhere else. She told me that they aren’t allowed to tell people that unless we ask. Ridiculous. This hospital does not care about wasting your time. They also have this ridiculous system of having you go through phases in waiting at least 3 different lobbies and you thinking that you’re baby is being seen each time only to tell you to wait in another lobby which is why we didn’t think to ask about the wait sooner. Then in the main lobby which is huge, they have someone calling out your baby’s name but you can barely hear them. Obviously the patients have a hard time hearing because the people calling out have a hard time finding who they’re looking for and then they are obviously irritated. There could easily be a better system to implement on a screen who is next in line. Terrible patient experience. But again, they won’t implement this simple solution because that would mean informing you of the wait time which would reduce their degree of profit they would get by the max amount of people that would otherwise go here and the insurances they get to bill.
Wow! Excellent patient care! Speedy, kind, and knowledgeable. Went in today to replace my daughter’s busted g-tube, and i was so worried she would miss her next meal. ER staff worked lightening speed to ensure she didn’t miss anything and we made our flight in time. Replaced extremely quick! Thank you so much!!
My 13 month old son was transferred here from the Woodlands Texas Children's Hospital. The ER was busy, but everyone was so nice! Anything we needed we quickly got. The optomologist that came and saw us in the ER was fantastic, my son didn't cooperate he's 13 months old, surprise there but she was great working with him to check out what she needed to. Once we were admitted and into a room the great experience continued. The entire Neurology & Optomology team we saw were fantastic! Our nurses were super friendly and quick to answer our needs. Hopefully won't be back soon but I know I and my children will be well taken care of here!
Thankful for the good care my nephew received but one nurses mistake almost costed him his life. Also the security people even the AA ones are biased against Black families. I witnessed several people allowed in rooms when it was only two of us and they gave us a hard time. The sitter I had to stay overnight told the nurse the blood pressure was not normal low 70/40s and she was very dismissive of what we noticed..not long after he coded...the same nurse and staff members have made the stay pure Hell.when we see them they give us smirks and dirty looks..when visitors come they are asked for picture ID..even though to get on the list they take your ID and took a picture ...I noticed another lady of color was asked the same thing while other ethnic groups were not.. Another father whose child was I'll said he they only did that to black people when he would go for his smoke break..they would let everyone with five or more people come up but relentlessly question the black families..when I visit none of us need this extra stress
DON’T COME HERE, unless your child has broken bones or airway issues you will wait 8+ hours, for being “Texas Childrens Hospital” and per the RN they are understaffed. Seems like they do not have the man power to care for the amount of sick patients that are constantly arriving and is almost disturbing to see the waiting room full of sick children and tired parents. Our last experience, we were here for 24 hours and left today after waiting 5, I wish the best for all the children and parents waiting in desperation, and strength for the staff
Im here for 5 hours already with my daughter waiting for the results of her ultrasound because she was with pelvic pain and when I asked the front desk lady why is taking so long to take my daughters ultrasound results, she said ask the nurse. I asked the nurse and she said: You have 5 hours and the person who wait for the most is 7 hours. In my opinion this location need more organization or more staff because is crazy the fact that you come here with an emergency and you have to wait 7 HOURS to see a Doctor. I hope they act like that when is about to charge the money for just make me wait here. My first and last time here
