Description

The Aviation Wing of the Marietta Museum of History is a growing collection of aircraft displayed on a 15 acre campus conveniently located 4.5 miles west of I-75, this museum highlights the impact the aviation industry has had on our local culture. We will show how aviation catapulted our fairly typical, small, Southern agricultural community into the industrial age and how Cobb County has impacted global events. In development of this facility, we also seek to interest America's youth in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) disciplines through exposure to the science and physics of aeronautics and astronautics.

Mission

The Aviation Wing is dedicated to preserving the aviation history of Marietta and Cobb County by providing an educational, enlightening, and engaging experience.

"Aviation is a major part of our military and the local community. Experience the "wild blue yonder" through an exciting exploration of 13 historic aircraft on site and learn how each has shaped global events. Please be advised, the museum is entirely outdoors and closes in the event of inclement weather. Please call 770-919-5700 option 3 or review our social media @AHTC for any weather related closures."

My fiancee and I had an absolutely fantastic time here! Stan gave us a guided tour of the C141 and we did self-guided tours of the rest. Stan was engaging and funny. His tour was the highlight of the trip! The self-guided tours were also fun, informative, and low-key. We could have stayed there for hours.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
Great place to visit on Sunday, particularly if your kids like airplanes as much as ours do! It is a small lot for a museum like this, so don’t expect this to be Georgias version of the National Aviation Museum in DC, but for what it is, it’s definitely an interesting place to spend a Sunday with the family!
Wonderful place! I visited yesterday, after living in the area my whole life and not knowing this was here. It's tucked away on the Lockheed plant base. It's an open air museum, aka outdoors. There are currently 15 planes to view, each with a placard with information. The tours are self-guided unless you book as a group. There is one plane you can tour, the largest of the collection, and there is a guide on that plane to offer a lot of information as you make your way thru the cargo hold and into the cockpit. I learned a lot about not only the planes, but also the museum. For everyone who gave bad reviews, I specifically made a cash donation on behalf of you and read your ridiculous reviews to the staff as I did. They enjoyed the laugh. Yes it's old planes - It's a museum. No they don't control the weather in an outdoor museum. Sure you can say it's an odd collection, as all the planes have been donated. Not exactly sure why someone would give a bad review stating the reason is because they aren't a fan of aviation - it's an aviation museum. For those leaving bad reviews due to the $5 admission donation, this is a volunteer organization with donated planes. They must pay for upkeep, restoration, and transportation to get the planes to the base. Not all can be flown, so they must pay for other transportation. They are currently working towards adding a museum indoor facility on site, so your admission fee goes toward that also. I definitely received more than $5 of information and thrill exploring these great aircraft and honoring those who flew them. I am appreciative of the veterans and volunteers who were on site yesterday to help me learn more. I will return and bring friends with me. This is a wonderful local treasure to share.
A fantastic place, so friendly and helpful! We spent almost two hours here, with a tour guide on hand or not if you don’t want. They were great with our children and answered hundreds of questions from them. We all had a great time and would definitely recommend this for an adventure trip!
This outdoor museum is wonderful. I took my 86 year-old dad there and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Those that volunteer at this museum have years of experience in aviation and have experience in a variety of areas in aviation. They kindly took us around in a golf cart and showed us the planes, giving us insightful details about the planes. On 1 cargo plane you can go inside. My dad can walk up a few stairs but if you are unable to walk, you can still see inside the cargo area of the plane. If you can walk up the stairs, you can see and sit in the cockpit seats. This place is a hidden gem and I hope to take my dad again.
Wonderful, just wonderful collection of planes. The staff was over the top amazing with my family. We got a tour of a plane by a guy who flew that plane. They let me son sit in the pilot's seat for pictures. If you're in the area and have kids, this is a great place to drop in.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
This is an outdoor museum, there is no indoor part. Lockheed C-141, AC-130, F-14 Tomcat and some other smaller aircrafts on display, you can do a tour of the C-141 inside. There is a $5 entrance "donation".Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
We had an awesome time here looking at the military planes. They had ~15 planes and other related things to look at. Everyone was super welcoming and knowledgeable about the planes and their history and we even got to explore inside one of them. My dad and I had a great time walking around and talking to the people here. Definitely worth a visit.
If you are looking for aviation history and easy access to aircrafts, do visit this place...there are guides to walk you through particular details..worth visiting for kids. You can take your pics with aircrafts... Be modest..
Getting a tour from retired Lockheed employees and pilots was worth the price of admission. May not be possible, but would have loved to go into the gunship. Oh well. Very knowledgeable. Thanks.
