The place is inconsistent, as the message from server to cook is not relayed accurately. I was not going back, took a chance and went back on my drive by, order was made accurately with no salt on fries. The time before there was two teaspoons of salt on fries.I did not eat them but took them home for experiment. as I said high amount salt added ,for some of us that is deadly poison .The fish was excellent, great tartar sauce.Great little place .Need to follow instructions from individual customers otherwise elite.
Breakfast from The Burning Bale this morning was excellent as always. Definitely worth the trip to Elgin! Let’s keep supporting these local businesses! In my opinion… the food, quality, and service is much better than any corporate restaurant that overcharges and doesn’t give you that extra care. Chef Germain always does a ‘table touch’ to ensure everything is to your satisfaction. Who does that nowadays? Someone who takes pride in their restaurant I tell you. Thanks for taking such good care of the community Burning Bale!
Looking for an “end of summer” destination with good food. The Burning Bale has been on my list for some time. The sun was shining and the birds were singing! Game on! Pick up a friend for the trip from Winnipeg to Elgin. The reviews were instantly tallied: This restaurant…is a winner! En route I called ahead to confirm they are open. YES. A beautiful warm day warranted a few little stops along the way - putting our arrival behind the time I indicated we would arrive. Almost there & I get a return call - checking for our eta. Thank You Chef Germain!!! I am very appreciative for your willingness to delay your closing! It was sooooo worth the drive! Food - beyond my expectations! Brisket Kaiser/fries…perfection! My friend had the cast iron burger/fries - mmm mmm good!!! Staff - super kind. Owner - very friendly and generous with delicious food! Burning Bale, you haven’t seen the last of me!!! Thank you again!
Came for lunch with a big appetite after golfing and skipping breakfast. I still could not finish my delicious Buffalo chicken poutine. Food is delicious and the Owner/Chef is so friendly. We will be back.
Great Cast Iron Burger! Next time I'd ask for extra Hillbilly sauce because it was so tasty smoked jalapeno tomato sauce, mayo, and de-alcoholized apple pie moonshine and Everclear. The poutine was a generous portion with real cheese curds and homemade fries with the perfect amount of sea salt. Chef Germain and our server were friendly and welcoming. I look forward to returning for the brisket and pulled pork poutine specials! Visiting The Burning Bale was well worth the 45-minute drive from Brandon but, if you're coming from afar, then it's best to call ahead in case they close early!
A true small town atmosphere eatery. Certainly worth a stop in rural setting. Excellent friendly service and incredible food. You won't leave hungry and wanting to return.Food: 5/5
Service was friendly and heartfelt "no body goes un hungry here!" Good communication in the kitchen, and seemed happening with people calling to place orders for pick-up. Everyone calling for a legendary burger apparently is the go to for pick-up orders, from the time I was there; must have been 5 or 6 calls for food pick-up. Hours Open were different then google had posted: 1030am - 130pm and 4pm - 630pm Tuesday to Saturday. Clean bathrooms! I was traveling through on a Thursday, and experienced a friendly culture reminder of Elgin's heritage along with an amazing dining room feel. Even during these days with so much going on in the world, it was nice to feel the comfort of home being at the Burning Bale in Elgin. I had the Chicken and Cheese Taco's with the soup of the day, and enjoyed viewing the pictures of what Elgin once was, and felt the warmth of what it still is in the hearts of the folks that live there. The price was cheep for the quantity of food, and flavour that makes you think you've been introduced to the heart of Elgin. You'll have to be your own judge, but even passing through - it was well worth the open hearted welcoming community feel.
Food was amazing and served quick! Fresh ingredients and made in house without question!
We went for the Sunday breakfast, we had the Egg Benny, Steak Benny and the breakfast Fatboy burger. The portions were huge, it tasted yummy, the staff and the owner were friendly. I highly recommend it.
Fantastic food. Make the tripFood: 5/5
