We are a student-run, pay-what-you-can vegan food provider. We use food to feed people, bring together
communities, educate people, and stimulate debate
The Carleton Food Collective (329 Bell street South) has been an autonomous part of the Carleton community since 2001. The Collective helps to feed students, faculty, and staff from our community kitchen in the Glebe. The Collective uses creative ways to avoid consumerist tendencies and seeks to bring superior value to our community.
The Carleton Food Collective is based on these cores values:
Sustainability: Environmentally, we source locally and organically when possible and we put food that would have otherwise been thrown away in to productive use. Socially, our organization minimizes conflict by deconstructing hierarchy and fostering a collaborative, rather than a competitive environment.
Community: By bringing people together around food, the Carleton and greater Ottawa community may learn from one another through solidarity, collectivity, and mutual respect.
Inclusivity: We involve our membership directly in our decision-making process and recipes by recognizing dietary restrictions and preferences and devoting ourselves to democratic decision-making. Our organization also eliminates economic barriers by giving our food away on a pay-what-you-will basis.
