The Coutts Museum of Art is located in El Dorado, KS and houses over 1,500 fine art pieces and sculptures. Founded by Warren Hall Coutts, Jr. in 1970 as a memorial to his son, the museum features Midwestern artists, and art from around the world.
The Coutts Museum of Art houses over 1,500 objects of art, including original paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings. Artworks for the museum were purchased mainly by Warren Hall Coutts, Jr. who traveled extensively and purchased works of art from all over the world. The collection includes works from Russia, China, France, Holland, England and South America. An important part of the museum is the work of prominent Kansas and Midwestern artists.
Traditional- The museum has several wonderful examples of the Rococo style, including a prized still life by Georges Jeannin titled Floral Study.
Contemporary- The collection offers a wide range of contemporary work starting with a marvelous collection of Prairie Printmaker’s work. The gallery is proud to house the largest Makk collection in the United States. Americo and Eva Makk and son A. B. are a world renowned family of painters.
Western- Of particular interest to many viewers is the Western Art section of the gallery, which houses the largest collections of Frederic Remington bronzes in Kansas. As impressive are the Charles M. Russell and Frank Tenny Hoffman sculptures.
One delightful aspect of the museum is the tasteful antique furnishings, some of which belonged to the Coutts family. Antique Persian rugs and artful arrangements set the mood for leisurely, relaxed browsing.
