Absolutely incredible and exquisite exhibits. Everything is laid out so well you can easily travel from one section to the next, with a smooth transition in-between. The cases are spaciously laid out as to not be overwhelming. This creates a good flowing atmosphere that keeps you moving and staring at the next item. There's a nice cafeteria that you can eat at, but hold on to your tickets. You'll need them to get back into the museum. The attendants are wonderful. The place is neat, tidy, and just fun. Definitely take your kids here, your wife, everyone will have something to look at here!
Incredible the history of Ford! It's a huge museum with lots to see. We didn't see everything as I think it would take a few days. The old locomotives were a highlight for me, as well as the cars. The presidential cars was very cool to see. I'm not a huge fan of racing but I have to admit it was very interesting yo learn about racers as athletes and seeing some powerful racing cars over the years. Another highlight was the mathematics, airplanes, and furnishings. The doll houses were incredibly beautiful and detailed. The Walt Disney costumes were also very cool to see up close. If you love fabric and costumes, I highly recommend to see the exhibit. It is only for a short while though. The food was good, some variety of sandwiches, snack food and entree meal. The ladies who work there were wonderful, very funny, and very helpful. I really enjoyed the experience and hope to go back to see what I missed!
So much to see in the museum. It will take you half a day to read through everything and walk through all the exhibit. Even a quick walk through needs about 3 hours. You learn so much on automotive, manufacturing, American history and culture, aerospace and Glass ! Love all the massive locomotive engines and massive power generator. They are just massive and beautiful. Train museum is usually outside but it was nice that Henry Ford manage to put these massive engines indoor It is a must go stop if you are in town
Amazing experience for people of all ages. The museum is big and has a lot of different sections about trains, cars, planes and machinery. You can get great pictures and also learn interesting facts about the development of all that. It is also interactive, with places where people can play games, practice being in the pit stop amongst other things. You need a couple of hours to be able to see everything.
Very fun and entertaining. There is a lot of history here and very educational. The staff in the village are very welcoming and informative about their task on the working farm. The museum had a lot of very interesting cars, planes and other historical facts and items from the past. The only negative thing for today's venture was a stand in the village was distributing custard to the people in line, but it was melting as it was being handed to the people purchasing it.
Fascinating look at innovation & invention, including in domestic arts. Obvious conscious effort in a good way to make sure displays reflect the true diversity of minority innovators. Good interactive displays for all ages. The adjacent Greenfield Village is a nice step back -- often into actual historic places that have been reconstructed on the site. Note: We were surprised that there is NOT free parking it's $9, which seems excessive, especially because the museum is already higher than comparable facilities, like the Space & Rocket in Huntsville, Alabama, which has free parking.
When planning our trip I didn't know what I know now, so I've visited just a third - namely this great museum. The entire Ford complex is enormous. It consists of three different parts: - Ford Museum of American innovation, - Greenfield Village, where Mr. Ford was born and where you can ride the T model, steam locomotive train and visit historic houses, and - Visit the still working Ford factory which requires boarding their bus and riding some 20 min one way. So, if you want all of these count on entire day for your visit. I didn't know that and planned only 3 hrs, which is quite enough for the museum only. Each attraction is paid separately, but there's also a combo ticket including all with a little discount. As a kind office lady told me, the museum is the biggest attraction and if I have to choose one - let it be the museum. She was right. First to inform you, this is NOT only the car history museum and when speaking of cars, not only Ford cars are here. As its name says, this is the Museum of American Innovation and you'll find here apart from cars - buses, trucks, trains, locomotives, hotel development, planes Wright brothers and Spirit of St. Louis, arctic missions, industrial revolution factory items, space program...in one word all aspects of life evolution in the last 100 y. Museum is just great, one of the best I've visited and you need at least two hours to see it, so 3 hrs I had were just fine for a leisure visit without rushing.
What an awesome museum to see and visit! I was able to go on a field trip here and it was an great space to visit with the school. A ton of history to check out and really dive into if you have the time. The automobile portion was our favorite and the multiple "games" to try was a nice touch. We're planning another trip with the family and will spend the day exploring. Recommend anyone to stop in!
This was a work outing for me. I was a little skeptical at first... But, after we got in we were not dissatisfied. Our group was able to view the museum. It was larger then anticipated. We were basically able to complete able 80% of the museum before heading to the Ford Rouge tour. I highly recommend this place. If you are local take advantage of the membership. If not please plan for a full day to explore. Check out some photos below.
This place is more than a museum. It's a great experience and a truly unique place. It's an insanely eclectic collection of things that we take for granted, but use on a daily basis. Furniture, cars, costumes, modular homes, locomotives, airplanes, restaurants, history, time pieces... everything comes together under the umbrella of innovation. They also give these innovations context by diving deep into their particular place in history. For instance - they have a replica of the Rosa Parks bus, but without context it might not resonate. They add plenty of context. Almost brought me to tears. Well worth the price of admission. Highly recommend.
