Historic hotel in downtown Lawrence. The atmosphere is great. Excellent food and staff friendly service. A grill room and adjacent more quiet formal dining available. Street parking can be challenging and perhaps the only real negative element of this location.Food: 4/5
Top Notch. As expected. The Jayhawker has a unique atmosphere that subtlety hints towards a fine dining experience full of historical nostalgia. Settled in the lobby of The Eldridge Hotel. With its wide varity of top shelf spirits and wine and a selection of beers to quench the thirst of anyone's pallette that seeks out such pleasures. Has become a destination of Kansas University Alumni and tourist far and wide to bask in its brilliant glory. Staff was excellent. And they have a valet service. $$$ 10/10 's
Stopped in for a social with some colleagues. The have a bunch of doorways that look like you can enter through them, but they are all non-functional except for one. Once you find the right door, you'll be in a very nice looking little restaurant with a small bar. We were hanging out at the bar. The service was great. We got to enjoy watching an excellent bartender making artisan drinks all night, and some of us indulged ourselves. The atmosphere was great. The noise volume was very low, making it easy to have conversations. The prices were on the high side, but everything was so good, I can't really complain about the price. Really great experience.
I was dining there a few days ago and I noticed and will say, the uniforms are horrendous. They do not go with the atmosphere whatsoever, let alone, having them wear ties that don’t go with the outfit. Change the attire and do better. The uniforms need to be the first to go.
I have enjoyed this place and recommended it to others. It "was" in my top favorite places to dine. However, I haven't been visiting as much lately because there's a new chef on board who has changed or removed most of my favorites.Dine in: YesTakeout: Yes
My husband and went to the eldridge for lunch. It was one of the best experience at a restaurant I've ever had. The sweet fire shrimp is so delicious you'll be hooked. My cheeseburger was cooked perfectly. The prices where good, the restaurant was clean, table set up beautiful. The manager even came and asked us how everything was,I thought that was a special touch. Will recommend to friends and will be back. You don't have to dress up either to eat there, I don't think people know that.
Food was fine but not great. Big complaint is our server forgot about us apparently. Took 10 min after seating to get water. Ordered drinks apps and food fine then had to flag a different server down after not seeing ours for almost 20 minutes. Could have been a great experience with a competent server.
Great food and atmosphere but the service was the worst I’ve ever had. Completely ignored for almost 30 minutes before asked for 1st drink got our drink then once again no service had to ask for next drink. 1 hour before I had to asked how to order food. Almost just left and management needs to get act together and train staff. Good food terrible horrible service
The bar might take a bit to get your drink but they offer a fun variety of cocktails in town. Thursday night is half off night and it will be busy. Expect a wait or to be standing at the bar if you don't have a server. By my last count, Limestone was serving the best hand crafted cocktails downtown. This is a historic spot, surviving an ol raid. Good setting for a drink and even TVs for sports. Good food.
Overall, this place is 4 stars, but on Thursdays, this place is 10 stars! They have half-price martinis on this day in average $5 for each drink. You have to dress kind of formally which is nice considering that no one usually cares what to wear in KS.
