We were so excited to see the new lodge at Black Butte and it is so beautiful and the views are stunning! We had breakfast here and it was pretty good! Service was pretty good as well, but there are still some fine tuning to be done! I rated it a 5, but a 4.5 would be more inline. We will try it again soon!
Went here Sunday evening to the bar upstairs. Nice bar and good service. They were not quite up to speed as yet since no food was yet being served there. We tried to get into the restaurant but they had closed to more guests at 8 pm but the restaurant was half full. I get that it was memorial day weekend, and the lack of employees seems to be a persistent issue, but a little anticipation would seem prudent. We went back for breakfast the next day. It was early so not crowded. We had a good breakfast with good service.
Really lovely experience. Despite some initial confusion about who our server was, we ended up with superb waitstaff who more than made up for it. The food was delicious and beautiful, the view just delightful. Kid-friendliness: Decent kids menu, ours had spaghetti, other options included a cheeseburger, grilled cheese and a sandwich, BLT I think.
Decent food, and pretty overpriced for the quality. The service was friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is very spacious and nice… Food 4.5 stars. I was tempted to give four stars because it was good but for an expensive meal I was expecting very high quality. It was… better than your average but not that great. They make it look nice, but it lacked a lot of flavor. Service 4 stars: this was the second time we have been here. The second time it was 5 star service. The first time I would give it a 3 star. The first time, the hostess was annoyed and was demanding/pressuring a decision to be made. Not only that but we went for one purpose only on the menu and they were sold out of that one thing, so we simply left. Dietary restrictions: They have a lot of GF options but they had a printing issues with their menus and many of the options don’t show GF
Ate breakfast here a week ago with 11 people. Our tradition through the years has been having breakfast on our last morning. The reviews were varied. We had two children in the group and were surprised there was no kids menu since it’s a family vacation spot. The eggs Benedict was disappointing. The egg was barely cooked and the bacon instead of Canadian bacon not up to par. The spinach and Swiss cheese omelet was just okay. Banana French toast was tasty but very heavy. Olivia was a fabulous server and the new lodge is absolutely beautiful. Hopefully the food gets better.
I'll start this by saying I would go back to see if it was just a rough day. But would probably only give it one more try to see if they've fixed their issues. It was the worst breakfast possibly dining experience I think I've ever had. Every single order was messed up in one way or another. The egg style for each order was wrong scrambled, over easy, poached. The Mimosa didn't show up until after we were done eating. The coffee cake and cinnamon role we ordered to start the meal didn't show up until after our meals had arrived. My daughter's breakfast came with the heel of the loaf of bread. I don't mind the heel of a loaf but when you're paying $18 for bacon and eggs it better be a middle slice. Coffee wasn't refilled until after the third request. The manager and waiter were very nice and the full meal was comped. It was just extremely disappointing. When you go for a meal out you have certain expectations. None of those expectations were fulfilled. Particularly disappointing because of the expected quality and service that we were looking forward to.
This was my first visit to the new lodge and it did not disappoint. The food was outstanding. The Alaskan halibut was perfect as was the fresh baked brownie with coconut ice cream for dessert no chocolate sourdough cake on the menu anymore though. Everyone I was with thoroughly enjoyed their meal. In terms of atmosphere, the new building is gorgeous and bright with massive windows. Every seat has a view of the mountains. Service was fantastic as well. I've been coming to BBR my entire life 31 years and have a lot of fond memories of the old lodge, so I was skeptical when they said they were building a new one. The new lodge definitely exceeds expectations. The only thing missing is the chocolate sourdough cake and free fudge at the end of the meal.
Sat at end of downstairs bar near the window. Perfect place if we didn’t have to look at the garbage cans and mops. Lovely new structure, but cold compared to the warmth of the old lodge. Menu was very limited, so we only had drinks. Back to Roberts Pub next time.Service: 4/5
The service was beyond horrible - 3/6 meals were good but the duck was beyond overdone and the steak was full of gristle. The steelhead was delicious but not enough food - there was basically a teeny tiny amount of noodle/pepper things and a small portion of fish. It was really disappointing for $28-$49! And the servers were very friendly but it was obvious they were not adequately trained or they were severely understaffed. We sat sometimes for 20 min with empty glasses without anyone coming by. Most tables were provided bread upon seating but we had to request it when they finally served us our hors d’œuvres. We had reservations for a group of 6 for a special birthday celebration for my 83 year old mom. They were well aware of this and we were not expecting above and beyond but we didn’t even receive adequate service. I’m sitting in a burger place now in Redmond getting better service than The Lodge. We have been homeowners at BBR for over 50 years and the prior Lodge restaurant was exemplary. This replacement Lodge restaurant is a sad example of “over- promise and under-deliver”.
The new lodge is beautiful. The setting is amazing and I was really looking forward to trying it as the old lodge was dated. Our server was sweet but the service seemed slow and scattered. The pricing was surprisingly reasonable for a resort. We ended up with a lot of minor issues and a few major issues unfortunately. Hopefully this will serve as helpful feedback. Shrimp and poke... Literally comes with one small shrimp? Charge more and put at least three on or remove the one shrimp and just have a poke dish. Caesar salad was okay but nothing special. I asked for some fresh ground pepper which they brought me a salt and pepper shaker. They don't have fresh ground pepper? No fresh Parm on the salad as well which would be an easy touch. Halibut was good and properly cooked with a nice plate presentation. But they managed to almost ruin it by putting some burnt bok choy garnish on. I would still order again. Pork chop was full on raw. Like mushy pink and inedible and dangerous. Served on cold polenta. Kids meals were fine except for the small bowl of pasta that comes with no side seems to not economically jive/match the cheeseburger sliders and fries that the my other child ordered. The server was equally grossed out by the pork and made it right by removing it from the check. I told her I didn't need to see the manager but I was surprised the manager didn't stop by just to check things out and apologize. Hopefully they are just working some bugs out at this stage. Could have great potential but currently unrefined and not a place I would be in a hurry to come back to. I think with some small changes and improvements they could really make a great spot.
