The Martinsville Youth Center will be a social and recreational center for use by school-aged children.
The purpose of the center is to promote and allow children in poverty, at risk after school, to have a safe haven, a good snack (nutrition), and mentors to help guide and support their personal growth. The most critical time they are at risk, with little or no supervision, and a lack of direction is from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm each school day, which will be the center’s hours of operation during the week. The center will be open during the summer for summer camps and field trips, and other activities. (Survey results confirm that these are the most advantageous times for parents).
The MYDC Board of Directors is a team of successful and helpful minded people qualified to lead and serve their community with the completion and implementation of the Martinsville Youth Center. The board is made up of school officials, community leaders, business owners, school board members, county council members, and teachers who assist in providing and sustaining services to the low-income youth in the community.
Our overall desire is to to foster children after school and during the summer with programs that promote emotional, mental, physical, and social development which, in turn, will ensue a strong community.
"To provide a place where all young people can realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. We will give our young people a sense of hope and opportunity in their daily lives."
