Originally built in 1923 as the Newburgh Savings Bank, the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum in Newburgh houses rotating collections of famous manuscripts
Originally built in 1923 for the Newburgh Savings Bank, the building now houses the Newburgh Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, which opened in 2001. Owned by David Karpeles, the curator for the museum and 13 others like it across the country, the Newburgh Karpeles Museum houses a rotating collection of famous manuscripts, including Mark Twain, the Adams family, Charles Dickens, original drafts of the Emancipation Proclamation and Bill of Rights, and many others. Small art exhibits are displayed as well, showcasing a vast array of styles.
