Finding Safe & Healthy Diets and Treats for our pets is very important but difficult considering that most brands touted as 'All Natural' are just a masked version of the same established industry that dominates by selling cheap and dangerous by-product waste materials that are chemically treated then disguised as something safe to eat. There are lots of glossy bags, smiling reassurances from official representatives and apparent genuine concern from those who work by the industry with these policies, but millions of tons, every day, of euthanized dogs, cats and uneatible animal processing left-overs are piled in rotting heaps of horrific stench as they start their trek to millions of pet dishes. These piles of pets, 500 tons a month just in LA alone, according to the NY times when quoting an LA Sanitation Dept spokesperson, are still wearing collars or in the blue plastic bags from the vets office as they are being being bulldozed into the feed hoper of a relentlessly humming, crunching and sputtering augur compresses them into the grinder and then a pump that pumps along the resulting grisly goo in a hose and then into a cooking vat were mass quantities of toxic preservatives such as ethoxyquin, are pumped in with, along with even larger quantities of denaturing chemicals, that mark the material as 'for animals only' with a chemical fingerprint that identifies the processing facility with a mix containing kerosene, benzene, carbolic acid, acetone and pine oil. This is the reality we face when choosing for our pets. Regulation of all animal food was left to a private company in 1901 and so no authentic regulation structure for safety has ever developed. Our pets rely on us to become as educated as possible concerning their diet and treat choices.
