The Philadelphia Project took a huge leap of faith in 2013 and started the Fuel After School Program. The Fuel pilot program began with about 25 students and a handful of staff and volunteers. Our goal was to provide an affordable, safe, and educational after school program for students K-6th grade, all while teaching the students about God’s love.
Over the last four years Fuel has grown in both its size, intentionality, and impact due to our incredible staff and God’s provision. Currently we are serving 75 K-6th grade students and 15 preschool students who stay after their TPP Preschool class! We also have 13 Fuel staff members now and are building a consistent volunteer base with college students from universities in the area. Our Fuel staff is committed to showing the students that learning doesn’t have to be boring and knowing Jesus can be exciting and fun! This year, students are taught a Bible lesson each week in an interactive environment, and we are beginning to have staff and volunteers teach them about different forms of Worship, such as music, rapping, dancing, painting, and poetry. Twice a week the students also get to choose to participate in different elective workshops that help them to develop their skills and passions, like music writing, American Sign Language, Calligraphy, Cooking, Street Games, and many more! The staff might be having just as much fun with this as the kids!
