Huge waste of time and money. Did much more harm than good. Everything the office told us about the program turned out to be untrue. We never had a chance to try to work out issues. Zero. One hour given to personal past mostly his. Half hour spent on talking about our wedding. One whole day spent reviewing the basics of Christianity think children's Sunday School level. The rest was spent with the "therapist" monologing about herself and her person theories based on her childless marriage in which they work in different states - hardly typical.
My wife and I came here twice. It was amazing in every respect. Our marriage was strengthened. We learned so much about ourselves and the dynamics of our marriage. We have benefited greatly. Our therapist was Matt Molenaar. And we highly recommend him. The staff was also terrific. The accommodations were very comfortable and relaxing, perfect for solitude with my wife.
The Ravines is a beautiful and relaxing property. The facility is clean and the hosts are very warm and welcoming. They make you comfortable and they don't pry into your business. They socialize if you want, and they don't if that's what you want. This really played I to my comfort level while there. The property is well cared for. The patio is beautifully landscaped, and the trail around the back makes for a nice retreat into nature. We attended at the same time as another couple, but we never felt like our privacy was being infringed upon. All the elements are here for a relaxing time. From my experience, the Ravines offers caring counselors who really do invest their all into your situation, however, if you have a marriage that is truly in crisis, I do not think you can benefit long-term from this retreat. We learned some communication tools, but ultimately, they were not enough to create any kind of lasting change in our circumstances. Three days isn't enough time to get into the Knitty gritty of the relationship problems. Sadly, it felt like a waste of money once it was all said and done. It's through no fault of the Ravines or the counselor. I loved our counselor. I just don't think it's possible to fix ten years of problems in two days. It's even harder when you come home, hit a road block within the first week, and find yourself right back where you were before you went on the trip. It feels particularly hopeless to come home, struggle to recover from something right away and be left thinking "well, if we can't get it together after investing in this retreat, then we just can't get it together." I think intense follow up the week after the retreat ends would be a useful tool. All in all, it's been 5 months since our trip, and our relationship has declined even further to the point of my health now declining due to my constant stress load. I am 36, I eat well, exercise, and prioritize my health, yet my day to day stress load has made my health take a nose dive. I feel like if you're just in a rough patch and need help getting back on track, this place could work for you. If you have a true crisis marriage with very little or no good times to propell you forward, I can't imagine three days changing the course of things for you. We won't divorce, but I definitely wouldn't put our experience in the success category. I feel just as hopeless if not more so than I did before the retreat. If you do go, please take your own pillow.
What a fantastic place! Everyone is so caring and just graceful. Lots of love shown. Not only support in saving marriage but also making your bonds stronger. When you're feeling like all hope is lost and this really is your last hope. The Ravines is the place to go. No judgement shown here but instead many hands of support of those who are rooting for your marriage. Definitely brought my husband and i a clear understanding and more appreciation of each other and just our roles in general. So we say thank you.
My husband and I attended February of 2017 and it literally saved our marriage. We felt hopeless in being able to get healing started on our own. I highly recommend starting with this intensive modality. We need to separate from our daily lives and have the luxury of time to be able to start down the right path for us. The Ravines is INCREDIBLE!!!
Could have used a little more time to fix a problem that surfaced in counseling. Other than that, best counseling I have ever seen. Eventually ended up divorced. They couldn’t stop the domestic violence. Approved workman are not ashamed. 2 Timothy. Please work on your skills.
Our counselor Matt and our host couples were fantastic. Through them, God did the seemingly impossible and saved our broken marriage.
