We stayed at Starlite for about a year and a half as newlyweds! It was just what we were looking for- quiet, nice people, no bells and whistles but AMAZING views. It’s away from town but not so far that getting groceries is a hassle, which was perfect for us.
My lady and I stayed at Starlite way back in 2011. And like many others who have left reviews over the years, we had nothing but an AMAZING experience. I believe we met Larry when we checked in, he was kind and funny and made sure we had everything we needed. We stayed in one of Starlite's vintage campers, Lucy was our gal! She was perfect, including pots and pans and linens and I recall even some salt and pepper, which we forgot to bring :. Bathrooms were spotless, grounds were well kept, and other campers staying at the park were kind and respectful. It was a great trip, and the beginning of a healthy shift in our lives to travel more. Years later we bought our own RV, and are now considering a campground of our own in the future. We're quite thankful to Sylvia and Larry for the experience and environment they've built together, and chose to share with others. So, why am I leaving a review a decade later? Well, for starters I wasn't as hip to Google Reviews way back then, so this has been a long time coming and is certainly well deserved! But also because recently we've determined that we'd like to live long-term on a campground, and have been checking out long term locations in CO, NM, MN and OR. It dawned on me last week to check and see if Starlite offered long-term stays, and to my surprise, that's what they do now. Seems there are some folks* out there who don't quite get the business model. Sure, some campgrounds are all about the turn and burn. Campers in, campers out. I mean, what? Isn't like 99.745% of campgrounds out there all family focused? There are plenty of those. Starlite has always been a more unique experience, and with the vintage campers you already knew things were going to be different. So I'm not the least bit surprised that after all the floods and fires and god knows what else, the owners found a model that provides privacy, affordability, and perhaps more importantly, community. And that's something we hope to be a part of. Ryan & Zoë * I wish Google let us Like replies to reviews. Whoever is replying from Starlite is doing the Lord's work and deserves a drink. Bye, Felicia!
We had the best time here! My boyfriend and I stayed in one of the vintage trailers the Flamingo and it was everything I hoped it would be! The whole place is quirky and charming, with fun little details everywhere. It was just so much fun to sit on our little "patio!" The trailer was stocked with all the little extra kitchen and linen items we overlooked and the bathrooms were clean and close by. Plus, the owners are super friendly and accommodating! I'm already planning our next trip here!
Absoleutely amazing place to stay! Super clean and friendly RV/Campgrounds! Not to mention you can see the royal gorge bridge from the site itself! I will definitely be visiting again! Feeling chatty? The owners Sylvia and Larry are more than happy to hang out and talk! Huge thank you to you guys. We had such an awesome stay with you!
This place was absolutely wonderful. The owners were great and made for great company in the evening when we got bored and were looking for something to do. Beautiful views. The campers are just amazingly redone. We stayed in a tent and still enjoyed the place! We will definitely be visiting again!
My family and I took a trip to Canon City and camped at the Starlight. What a great and VERY clean place. Larry and Silvia owners are great people with great customer service. The showers/bathrooms are very clean and they have a wonderful little market with some fun "50's" themed merchandise. One slight disturbance is the neighbor's have a rooster and peacock and were quite noisy in early AM, but we bought some earplugs and slept great the next night. With camping you can never control the noises of nature! We will go back and stay in one of their vintage trailers sometime. Would defiantly recommend this place and felt very safe and welcome.
The rudest lady I have ever meet. I love restored campers. And saw the place as I drove by I wanted to get more information about staying there as we have a camper were restoring. I thought it would be fun to stay there we ours was done. Never happening now We were enjoying looking at the old campers and didn't see a sign saying not to go past an area. Once I saw the sign we were trying to turn around and The lady came flying on her Hoover craft. Though we apologize over and over she was not having it again we could not have been more sorry and polite to her. I'm afraid she was honestly the rudest person I've ever met in my life. There was no need to be that nasty I'm floored as a supervisor of customer service this was the worst I've ever been treated by anyone. As her response I never said I was right I did miss your signs I apologize over and over as you can see she is very rude and nasty. Also we were right in front of the office trying to get info when your rudeness arrived I had not bothered one guest I didn't even get a chance to get out of my car to check in the office
What a fun little campground for anyone who likes vintage trailers, cars, etc. We stayed here for a few days in July, and thoroughly enjoyed it. They've got about 8 or so restored campers that are available to rent, and if you're staying at the campground, you're welcome to walk around and take exterior pics of them, they stress to not peek in the windows for guests' privacy, rightfully so. They've also got "the boneyard" which are a dozen or so campers off to the side and rear of the campground, that are awaiting restoration, and a few old cars, golf carts and things around to check out, in addition to a tiny vintage store at the office. Every employee we encountered was super friendly. We definitely didn't have anyone rude to us, as a few others have commented. They even have a leash-free dog area that's big enough for your dog to actually run around in, unlike a lot of parks that even the smallest dog can barely get in a good run because the space is so tiny.
I thought this place was great. Had my 5 year old with me and she loved it too. They do things a little differently than most places but nothing crazy to complain about. The people were polite and respectful and explained right away to respect other people's privacy in the vintage campers so I could see why they get mad when you don't follow the rules. I definitely recommend this place
THE BEST PLACE TO RV, CAMP, OR STAY AT THE ROYAL GORGE! The owners do a great job of making you feel at home, and they are very good at trying to monitor who comes in the camp grounds. So the kids can also feel like they are back home by leaving the camper and going to look at the grounds! The retro theme of Starlite is really cool especially if you like to look at 1950's to 1960's era vehicles and campers. If we ever find our way back here we would probably look into renting one of the many retro themed campers Starlite offers here on the grounds!
