From the love of “the pick” this business was started. I’m driving down the street and there is a garage sale, antique store, a secondhand store or furniture on the side of the road with a sign that reads “FREE”. I slam on the breaks, my heart starts beating fast, my palms are sweating and I have a huge smile on my face. I AM DOING THE HAPPY DANCE!!
Before I can get my new found treasure to my car I am already visualizing how she can look in her new dress or his new suit. Often I have to wait a while to see how this piece speaks to me to see what it really might want to wear. And then it speaks and I paint it’s new attire. Sometimes I think I could close my eyes while I am painting because it just happens.
Then I get to introduce this beautiful new creation to it's new owner. That joy is just as beautiful as the above.
The delivery is an armoire of mixed emotions-Happiness for the customer, excitement to see how it is placed and staged into it’s new home and sadness to see it adventuring out to it’s new family. It is as if I am sending a child off to college.
I am grateful for the creative talent that were taught in our family. From my Mom building her miniature house and furniture, my aunt loving to knit so much that she often would take apart a sweater that she had knit so she would have yarn to knit another, my sister doing her tole painting for years and helping me with this business and my many cousins making a living from their creations-my family members have the creative talent build-in.
