Our story begins with Bob and Sue Keller who identified the Steamboat Island Community was missing an upper scale social gathering place. A place where friends and neighbors could congregate over a pint or a glass of wine, make friends, and share in the experience of living in the Steamboat Island Community.
The decision was made, and it was time to get started. A great complex adventure. They began to share their ideas and desire to own and operate a local taphouse with friends and family, in came Tammy Williams who had the same vision and desire for the Steamboat Community. Adding coffee, expanding wine, and local art on consignment in order to diversify the space and provide more for the community.
The space was challenging. Wrestling with the size and scope of the property the partnership quickly determined the focus would be on craft beer, cider, and wine. Adding to those choices, in order to optimize the business, the Tipsy Whale will also serve coffee and espresso. In addition, gourmet pre-packaged foods are available. All for on-site and off-site consumption.
The owners have also made the decision to invest in a food-truck. Choosing to work with local farmers and producers to create handcrafted, thoughtful, and delicious food for the local community. Patrons can look forward to this late fall of 2018 or early spring of 2019.
The Tipsy Whale model is all about the community, we want people to collectively harness the power of collaboration, to create shared values and promote a sense of inclusiveness that a local gathering place can provide. To that end we offer free space for community groups to meet. To further promote these concepts the Tipsy Whale’s use of natural light, low music, and limited television creates an environment wherein patrons get to know each other, they communicate, and socialize. We want you to feel like you’re at a friend’s house.
