Mediocre food with high prices. We haven’t tried any of their raw stuff yet but we might visit one day to try it. Overall servers are good. Food on the other hand, as I’ve said is very mediocre. If the prices were way lower it could have been okay. Cheap plastic plates and bowls are used in the same place as that Japanese restaurant in ironwood that has all you can eat—but that one is worse. It’s basically a Chinese run Japanese resto. That is basically all you need to know. The pictures I’ve added are all mediocre food. Forgot to take the pic of the shrimp and yam tempura—those are actually pretty okay. TLDR; expensive mediocre food
TOKU Richmond 8/10 Overall 7.5/10 Food Quality 8.4/10 Service 8.7/10 Dining Atmosphere 8.7/10 Value ATTENTION PARENTS!!! Ok so I’m excited to tell you about this one! The food quality is ok, some things are greater than others, and some of them are sub-par. But the most exciting part about this place is that it has a kids play area! So you can send them off and eat in peace lol. Also they have a kids menu that is not too shabby =. Their lunch specials are pretty decent as well! Would I come back? DEFINITELY! SCALLOP MAGMA ROLL SET $15.95 Spicy tuna mixed with tempura bits topped with chopped scallop and black sesame sauce. This was pretty good. I would get this again! Comes with a miso soup AND your choice of a side dish. We chose a 2pc flamed salmon sushi. It was pretty good! 8.4/10 GINDARA SABLEFISH SET $19.95 Grilled miso-marinated black cod with rice, soup, and salad. Ok so at this price, for the amount of fish we got was a damn good deal! At western places, expect the same amount of fish to be in the $40 range!!! But I will say they could improve on their miso marinade. It’s like they literally just slapped on miso paste. They need to mix it with a teriyaki sauce or something as well. Oh and the salad sauce was sub-par. So to conclude, the sablefish was great, really good value, and very delicious. But the sauce for it and the salad dressing needs improvement. 8.2/10 CHICKEN TERIYAKI BENTO SET $15.95 Chicken Teriyaki on rice, tempura, salad, 3pc California roll, 2pc Salmon Oishi, mocha dessert, veggies. Ok so the chicken teriyaki was good, standard. The tempura and the California rolls were also standard. The Salmon Oishi sushi was sub-par. Salad dressing was also sub-par. Next time if I was craving chicken teriyaki I would go for just a chicken teriyaki bowl instead of this set. 7/10 KIDS SHINKANSEN SET $12 Veggies and fruit, California roll, chicken karaage, juice box, jello stick. California rolls were standard, karaage was decent. 7/10 KIDS YAKISOBA SET $11 Probably one of the worst yakisoba’s I’ve had. It lacked taste/sauce. But the kids liked it lol. We asked them to serve this in a Shinkansen train dish too! 4/10
Totally different from pic. We order a deluxe chirashi and a sashimi bento. When we finished ordering, the servant did not say anything. But when I asked her “ I want to confirm that it comes with the Uni, isn’t it?” She said:” no, no uni.” Ok. So we paid a higher price $34 for regular chirashi. And when the bento box came, we totally shocked with how tiny it was. It came with 4 small pieces of Costco roll sushi, 2 thumb size sushi and it is all rice! thin cut sashimi and a bite of a quarter mochi and a mini plate of seaweed salad. And it costs $22.
Good atmosphere nice decor, good service, nothing too spectacular on sushi , or sashimi. Good sake selection.Food: 3/5
The sushi here is really tasty! The price is a bit higher compare to other Japanese restaurants, but the food quality is brilliant and creative.Recommended dishesAssorted Tempura 10pcs, Miso Soup, Tuna and Salmon Sashimi
Great sushi place in Landsdowne Centre.First time coming here. Decent food and portion size. Ingredients are fresh. Good customer service. Relaxing ambiance, clean and well-maintained. Price range is a bit high compared to other Japanese restaurants.
Huge selection of dishes. Good food. Fairly reasonable prices for lunch sets. Reasonably quick service though I waited like 15 mins to pay at the end but they were quite busy, even though they have bell service. Two things of note: 1 the tipping POS conflates the your subtotal with your total with tax combined. So if you're paying via percentage, you'll be paying on top of taxes, which isn't cool. 2 Secondly, tables are very sticky here and the layout is very strange. Tables are on top of steps, so you have to be careful when getting in and out of booths. This is especially inconvenient when you come with older patrons or those with mobility challenges. Other than that, this was a good Japanese place that I will return to.
Came here with a friend for dinner on a weekday. No troubles getting a seat as it wasn't super busy. Pretty big menu and food wasn't too bad either. Got the beef carpacio and that was pretty good. Also a fish liver dish; wasn't a huge fan of it as it tasted like canned fish. Oysters and sashimi were nice and fresh so I'd recommend that. For rolls: got a mango paradise roll and a black sesame roll. My friend didn't like either of the rolls, though I enjoyed the black sesame one. Mango paradise wasn't that great as it had carrots in it; not really a fan of carrots in a sushi roll to be honest. Overall, enjoyed my time there, would come again.
Food is alright but it’s pretty kids friendly with a play area.Food: 4/5
I would come back, staff are nice and they know English. They can split the bill which is bonus. Our orders were coming out fast at first but slowed down and the vegetarian sushi came out last for some odd reason. Probably there were more customers towards our end of the dinner. I would definitely come back and try other dishes.
