My Aunt Louise Oglesby was the quintessential Kentucky girl who loved with a wink, and smile and possessed an indescribable inner joy along with wry humor, and was so very playful. She made certain we were "overly" loved, overly fed, overly hugged, overly gifted, and we really all loved her for it. There wasn't much time in life to be too too serious even if she had a lot of empathy for life's trials and tribulations. I knew her more as a younger nephew and somewhat into my college years but missed out on a lot of "knowing her." Even so, she lived pristine in me and have carried her magic dust on me my whole life really. We kids loved all of our aunts or my father's 3 older sisters, but Aunt Lou held a very special place, and associated towns like Henderson and Owensboro, were really like our homes away from home. This is why her service this past June required a funeral home where such a spirit as hers would be equally received and met with the understanding and care of such a grand soul. Tomblinson more than rose to the occasion! Admittedly it had been many years since returning to Henderson and while sweet sorrow it was, when turning the corner onto ALT 41 and seeing the Welcome mural on the side of their building, it made me smile. I'm in hospitality and love historic downtowns so could tell that these owners did as well and were showing off their town pride. The interior was quite updated and felt very fresh, light and the chapel was well-appointed, roomy, and truly an uplifting place to be in. They took great care of my Aunt Lou on full display and looked not only as I'd remembered her in her prime, but they'd gone to some lengths I'd imagine to remove some of the wear of age that had for some years been her malady and strife. In that sense, she looked as well as she really deserved to feel but late life had denied her to some extent. It's that kind of thing that makes you indebted to such a place like Tomblinson's. It was a full house of family and friends, some Webster County folk now spread far and thin, came to reunite here and say farewell. We shared stories, tears, and laughter, and really less the tears, you could feel Aunt Lou smiling on the whole gathering. The funeral procession was well managed and as a historic cemetery tour guide myself, it was quite a treat to see and know my Aunt Lou was being interred in the very historic Fernwood Cemetery where I spent a lot of time exploring days after. She's in great company with a fellow school teacher and founder of Mother's Day, Mary Towles Sasseen. Seems fitting Aunt Lou would share some patch of earth nearby. Thanks once more Tomblinson's. Keep doing what you do!
They make you feel at ease when you are there. They do not rush you through anything. They will answer any question you have to ask them. They keep following up on you to see how you are doing. My husband passed away January 8 and our Anniversary was in March and his birthday was in April, they just sent me a sweet reminder to remember the good times even though they were sure I was sad but that he was still with me in spirit. They did not rush us when they took him from my home, I would recommend them to anyone.
Tomblinson was very comforting and easy to work with our wishes and requests. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing funeral services.
Tomblinson Funeral home staff were very caring and made a difficult time much easier! They were very compassionate during the process and after.
The folks here are so compassionate. They guided me and advised me as if they were a part of my family. I will never forget how important they were to me to get through this very difficult time.
The staff at Tomblingson Funeral Home took excellent care of our Mother, Nancy Sue O’Dell. Pam was very thorough, thoughtful and caring. They truly made those days more bearable by treating us like family.
I had no idea what to do or what to expect. My brother was the first person I have ever had to make arrangements for. My dad took care of my mom's arrangements and my older sister took care of my dad's. This was all new to me. Mr. Lambert was very kind and understanding. He was very knowledgeable and helped me to understand the process. He walked me through all of the steps and took care of all of the details. I am so grateful to him and the staff. I highly recommend Thimblingson's Funeral Home.
We have been shown great kindness and compassion from Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson, KY. Life has brought us 4 deaths in 10 years. Two had been in hospice care, which gave us time to plan as well as grieve along the way. In both cases, Leah guided us without any pressure or guilt about our choices. Unfortunately, the other two deaths were unexpected. In each case, we visited with Leah, full of grief, trauma and great sadness. We were served with a level of compassion that almost felt like pastoral care. When we could only cry, she gave us tissues. When we were so frozen that we couldn't speak to answer, she gave us time. When we were numb, she guided us to decisions that were best for our family. She NEVER told us what we should do, only what our options were. In one case, she had to deliver news to us that a loved one's body was in such bad shape that it could not be transported to us. It was heart wrenching to hear this news. But Leah had all the right words to deliver that news to us and answered all the hard questions we had. I hope we don't need funeral services anytime soon. But if we do, I know who to call.
My step dad passed away on the day I was scheduled for surgery; so I was unable to go and make the arrangements with my mother and sister. Which I felt bad because I couldn’t. But after my surgery they were telling me about what they picked out for him and how nice they were treated by the staff. The staff helped mom and my sister through it all and was very patient with them both. Even when they told them they couldn’t pay for anything that as I was paying for it, but I wasn’t there. They still didn’t treat them any different. That holds a lot with me. Even when my sister told them that I would be in two days later to pay for the services. The staff didn’t have any problem with that. The day of his service was very hard and the staff was very attentive to my mom as she’s an older lady who can’t stand for long periods of time. They kept coming and checking to make sure we didn’t need anything. Even after wards, it’s only been three weeks since my step dad been gone, the staff is still checking on all of us making sure we don’t need anything. All of the staff has gone above and beyond to show how much they care and that means the world to me and my family!!!
