When visiting tombstone we were able to check out the courthouse. Another museum filled with history and preservation of the the town. So much to observe from carriages, old fashion clothing, newspapers, an old court room, lots of Wyatt Earp memorabilia, and an old gallows in the back! A trip back into time recommend checking this museum out as well!
Tombstone was amazing. Everything I've ever hoped for. Been wanting to go for decades since my first western movie. Awesome sights, very good actors/personnel. My mother in law was approached by the Cochise County Sheriff, he attempted to serve a warrant but not unlike Ike Clanton... she got away with it. . The Court house is a must see, very cool stuff in there. There are events that you must purchase tickets for, you might want to get in at a decent time of day to insure that you get a seat before last show. However, it is free to walk around but to fully enjoy your visit, bring plenty of cash.. Not because you have too, but you will definitely want too. P.s. Big Nose Kate's Saloon was EPIC, and has an amazing Brisket, but also a friendly veggie selection as well.
Great experience for any and all ages, of history past !!! Rangers are very informative, all items are very well maintained. I visited 2 weeks prior to Christmas it was decorated beautifully!!@Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
An amazing walk through history with well-preserved artifacts that detail life in the Old West in the early years of the United States. Park Ranger II Curtis Leslie is knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining as a tour guide. I highly recommend checking this museum out.
Loved Tombstone...it was great! We watch Tombstone Territories on tv, an old western. Very entertaining. Loosely based on the stories printed from the Tombstone Epitaph the newspaper in Tombstone.
This was a very interesting self-guided tour through a museum that houses a lot of historically accurate info about Tombstone and the infamous shootout at the OK Corral. Out back you will even see the gallows where public hangings by invitation were held. While most of Tombstone felt like a carnival with hawkers everywhere, the museum was definitely worth the trip there. We stayed about an hour and a half and could have stayed longer.
A must see if you are in the area. Very nice place to visit and learn history. Loved it.
If you're in Tombstone for the history--and honestly, why else would you be there?--then you definitely want to take the time to stop in at the Courthouse Museum. It is fairly large museum that offers a comprehensive history of Tombstone and the surrounding area, beginning with the original native inhabitants up through the 20th century. Of course there is an entire room devoted to Wyatt Earp and the OK Corrall shoot-out, which provides a detailed, shot-by-shot account of the fight along with items that belonged to the combatants, but there is also interesting info about the local mining, ranching and historical businesses and people, as well as newspaper articles about the agitation over labor rights which occurred in the early 1900s. The main courtroom is preserved more or less as it was around the 1880s, and was my favorite part of the museum. The fee for adults as of summer 2021 was $7, and that seemed about for the size of the museum.
Much to see plenty of historical documentation to read and lots of items well displayed.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
We stopped here after a takeout lunch in the City Park just 2 blocks from the courthouse. There were social distancing rules and only 10 people allowed inside at a time. It was an overcast day AZ monsoon season in July but was comfortable indoors with fans running. The old courthouse building is 2-story with several rooms on each level. Don't forget the outdoor exhibit of a gallows... a disconcerting reminder of that part of our judicial system. Many aspects of life in Tombstone's heyday were featured -which is more than just the shootout at the OK Corral. There's something for everyone inside. My faves were the old newspapers highlighting grand jury cases and the old faro table/cards. We spent about an hour here. AZ State park system runs the building. There was a nominal admission fee.
