Anthony T.P. Brooks was elected to Wilkes-Barre City Council in 2015 representing District B which includes the neighborhoods of Rolling Mill Hill, the Iron Triangle and Downtown around Wilkes University. The former executive director, first vice president, board member and current Life Member of the Luzerne County Historical Society, Tony is active with the preservation and promotion of local history. He is well known for his architectural walking tours of Downtown Wilkes-Barre, tours of the Luzerne County Court House and social history tours of Hollenback Cemetery.
Brooks is chairman of the Wilkes-Barré Preservation Society Fund of The Luzerne Foundation, an advisory board member of the Forty Fort Meeting House Preservation Committee and the Wyoming Commemorative Association. He served a two year term on the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's Historical Marker Review Panel. In 2007, he was co-chair of the 200th anniversary of the Forty Fort Meeting House; in 2008, the chairman of the 150th anniversary of the Luzerne County Historical Society; in 2009, the co-chair of the 100th anniversary of the Luzerne County Court House; and in 2017, the chairman of the 200th anniversary of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
A two-time winner of National History Day competition in high school, Tony Brooks has served as a regional district judge for National History Day for the past 10 years and is a recipient of the Daughters of the American Revolution’s Founders Award for Patriotism for his efforts to promote history and historic preservation.
He also serves on the board of the Diamond City Partnership and treasurer of the Downtown Residents’ Association. He is a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church where he serves as the Verger and a past member of the Vestry and a current delegate to the Diocese of Bethlehem Convention. He also serves on the board of the Hollenback Cemetery Association, Wyoming Valley Art League, Anthracite Heritage Foundation, the Osterhout Free Library, the Nesbitt Foundation, community advisory board of WVIA Public Media and president of the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Club. He is a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Sons and Daughters of the Susquehannah Company, Lodge No. 61 of the F. & A.M and Irem Temple of the A.A.O.N.M.S. He is a past president of the St. David's Society of the Wyoming Valley.
Brooks served our country with the 104th Cavalry, Pennsylvania Army National Guard (1985-1992) and is a member of the Class of 2006 of Leadership Wilkes-Barre. He is married to a Federal Agent with the Department of Homeland Security and has three wonderful dogs, Thacher, a treeing walker coonhound and two beagle brothers, Franklin and Zebulon. They live in the 1873 carriage house of the Richard Sharpe estate.
