Stafford Promotions Presents: The Tybee Island Beach Derby on Saturday, October 12, 2013. This is a 3.1 mile obstacle course fun run on the beaches of Tybee Island that consists of 12 obstacles!
Thanks for your interest in the first ever Tybee Island Beach Derby 5K Obstacle Course! This fun run will start in the North Beach Parking lot and finish at the South Beach Pier. We are teaming up with Tybee Pirate's Fest so the theme of 2013 is "Treasure Your Chests". We will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society and Tybee Save the TaTa's.
Each obstacle will have a sponsor. The sponsor will team up with a local non-profit to build the obstacle, set up and break down the obstacle on race day, and donate $500 to the non-profit at the closing ceremony after the race. Obstacle sponsorships are $500.

The Tybee Island Beach Derby is a 3.1 mile challenge run with obstacles through sand and surf. The race will involve a lot of running and navigating obstacles, but will NOT include swimming! You can expect to run through at least ankle deep water at some point during the course.
This is a fun run so you will NOT be timed. Run, walk, or crawl this course! This course is for all skill levels. Navigating this course will take moderate effort and a great sense of ADVENTURE. Fellow racers will always be around to help out. And don't forget, if you just can't do an obstacle, just run around it, but be aware of surprises. :-)
What do you get as a Tybee Island Beach Derby Racer? You will get entry into the obstacle course where you will push, pull, crawl, and jump over 12 creative obstacles. Each participant will receive a Tybee Island Beach Derby wristband and bib, a cotton t-shirt, and entry into ALL of Saturday's Pirate's Fest festivities (a $12 value)!
You must be age 13 or older to participate in the Tybee Island Beach Derby. An adult must be present at the time of race check-in with all 13-17 year olds. With that being said, there will also be an obstacle course set up for kids ages 5-12 on the South Beach portion of the beach between 16th-18th street. Parents must be present for kids to participate.
Parking: Parking will be available on 14th Street, 15th Street, 16th Street, 17th Street, 18th Street, and Butler Ave. We will be running a trolley that will be picking racers up at Tybrisa and Butler Ave. to transport racers to the start line in the North Beach Parking lot. There are facilities at North Beach. We recommend you leave all your valuables (phone, wallet, ect.) in your vehicle. All you need on your person is your wristband and bib. The race will end on South Beach. Plan ahead, you must be in line by your heat time. You need to give yourself time to park and ride the trolley to the starting line. You must pay your meter. Day passes are available at City Hall.
Since this is a "fun run", there are no winners or losers. However, there will be one competition that can win you BIG $$. SInce the theme of the Tybee Island Beach Derby is "Treasure Your Chests" and we are teaming up with the Tybee Pirate's Fest, we will have a pirate costume competition. 1st place will receive $500, 2nd place will receive $400, and 3rd place will receive $300. BIG $$ for great costumes. We urge everyone who participates to dress like a pirate!
