My loved one was placed in different rooms and both were filthy. That is absolutely inexcusable when you’re paying $100k+ for a surgery. I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want it to affect the the attitudes of the staff taking care of my loved one. I just tried to clean it with my own products from home. Will choose another hospital next time so my loved one isn’t laying in the previous patient’s germs. Yuck! Nurses also kept repeatedly offering things my loved one couldn’t have per the surgeon. Read the chart before you offer. Also, PLEASE wear gloves when you take blood.
I am here with my mom for her surgery today and I felt compelled to write this review. I have never had such an amazing experience at a hospital. Absolutely everyone that works here, whether they’re a custodian, admin, food service worker, nurse, or doctor, is absolutely amazing. They’re professional, friendly, caring, empathetic, and appear to love working here. Whatever UAB is doing to attract and keep these kinds of employees is a model other hospitals should adopt. I’m just blown away. If I lived in Alabama and needed surgery this is absolutely where I would come. Well done y’all. Keep it up.
My husband has been here a week today and he has gotten great care from everyone. The nurses have been very attentive to everything we've needed or asked for. My problem is the cleanliness. I think our floor has been mopped twice and they asked if I wanted it mopped. Yes please! I think they need to step up their game in cleaning.
My wife had a vascular surgery and we are located in the west pavilion on the 7th for in the M7 department. It’s TERRIBLE. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. The day shift nurses are TERRIBLE. Our night shift nurses were the best. My wife literally feels like they’ll let her die in here. The room is disgusting. I’ve killed 2 full grown roaches and we’ve been here a day. Yes they are relocating us to another room but the room we are in is so dirty and nasty. We thought UAB was prestige Definitely the total opposite. I see people say it depends on what floor or department you get but this is the worst hospital I’ve ever been in. Will never come back and will stay local. 0/10 recommend.
My dad recently had heart stent and valve replacement at UAB. Dr. Ahmed and his team were extraordinary. The dedication and attention to my dad's condition was remarkable. The level of care that my dad received was outstanding. Thank you UAB, Dr. Ahmed, and your team.
I was happy to finely find a place with room. But was straight up told I couldn't have my service dog with me. Doesn't seem like I'm the only one with issues. UAB seems to not treat Service Dog user fairly.
My wife was life flighted to UAB for massive blood loss, she was treated extremely bad ,she was no priority and parked in the hall she suffered alot of pain and was not seen by anyone for one hour and that's when she asked a nurse for a blanket, they were all rude to her speaking on how busy they were and would get to her when they were able, she was given Tylenol for pain after they sowed her up with 22 stitches and x-ray followed after! She wanted to call a family member to transfer before procedure because of the wait and rudeness and nothing for pain, when she asked for help, because she couldn't walk the nurse told her they were not going to accommodate with a phone call or wheelchair if she was going to leave!! I do not recommend this Emergency Rm,to anyone to be treated as poor as my wife! She will never go there again!!!!
This is solely based on experiences with the billing department: I've never dealt with a more incompetent department. It almost feels malicious at this point. I've had bills that never arrived, old addresses on file that I never knew were still there, wrong guarantors listed, and 20+ phone calls including supervisors, and patient relations. And never a single phone call from their department to us about any bills. Only the alleged mailed bills we never received. The doctors are ok, the medical staff is nice, but the billing department is an absolute joke.
This review relates only to the medical records release office. The one person who runs the office was 18 minutes late today, was rude, and had incorrect knowledge of the required form. Given that the population most likely to request their medical records is at the least health-challenged, it is a shame that UAB does not have a better representative to offer their patients.
UAB Medical ICU staff was great. The nurses and doctors were incredibly accommodating to my family and gave my mom great care and compassion. They went above and beyond to make the time at the hospital as easy as possible
