Took my daughter for an 11 am intake appointment for outpatient services. When we arrived at the front desk, they had no information for our appointment. We were given paperwork and locked in a dirty room. Yes, locked in. No one checked on us or communicated with us. After almost 3 hours,I banged on the door and no one came. Finally i was able to flag someone down and asked them to let us out so we could reschedule. She refused to open the locked door. A man came in and I explained we would reschedule and to let us out. He said he needed to ask the doctor. What? A doctor who clearly knew nothing about my daughter or her needs or even that she was there the past 3 hours. After another 15 minutes, we were allowed to leave and given a host of excuses. I will never go back. I should have read the reviews more closely before stepping foot in this place.
Disgusting, dirty, and dingy. The intake rooms and chairs were full of dirt, broken pieces of the chair fabric, rubber, and trash. The units weren't any better. The entire place smelled awful. The night I arrived at intake at around 6pm. I was finally taken back to a unit around 8pm. I was re-asked and I re-answered all of the questions I was asked at intake. I was finally allowed to go to a room at 11:30pm. I finally fell asleep around 1:00am. -- I was woken up at 6am and moved to another unit. I hadn't even been in the bed 7 hours yet. I was not given a reason why. So I asked the nurse why. She gave me no real answer, she just said "it's too full". Later I asked two more people why. Overall I was given 3 different reasons. One by the nurse, one by an internal medicine doctor, and one by a psychiatrist. The unit I was been moved to was extremely loud. The patients, the nurses, everybody. I've never heard nurses, psychologists, and social workers cuss with each other so much while working. Very unprofessional in a patient medical area. It was much worse given this environment. One patient would yell and slam his hands on the wall, the counter, anything - nurse Jaime would laugh and go along with it encouraging him. He would talk about how many times he'd been there and how he was only there for medication and how he'd slept with most of the "regulars" that had been there. As far as all of the fist slamming - right on the wall it says erratic behavior is not tolerated. I'm not sure if they were afraid of him or entertained. I was afraid. Other patients were talking about "skull-loving" women on the streets, exchanging stabbing stories, and watched a Charles Manson documentary - all while laughing about how cool he was and how awesome it must have been to have women write to him in prison. This is all in the same presence as the cussing staff members. While in my room I overheard a Doctor come in. He was asking to see a patient so he could assess him. The patient in question was on a smoke break. The doctor said to the nurses quote, "This is so predictable it's ridiculous." He went on to say that the day before he called the unit to make sure the patient was there before he came down to do an assessment, and when he got there he was gone - and that he would call back in 10 minutes to confirm if the patient was back. That was his story of the day before. Now he's here without the patient again. He asks the nurses if they were working there yesterday with slight frustration in his voice. They say no and apologize profusely. The Doctor says he's going to go back to his office and call back again in 10 minutes to make sure the patient is there because he needed to do this assessment. At this point this doctor-patient situation is 24 hours past due. They couldn't process my typical daily medications, so I had to go without my daily medications, some are dangerous to stop abruptly. Not one person in the facility had the same answer as any others. I watched them scare other patients into staying by threatening court action, to the point one of the poor patients finally rescinded their request to leave. I can't speak as to if it was in their best interest to stay or not, but I can say without a doubt they were feared into it by what the nurses said and what the doctor said when they brought the doctor in on a Zoom call of all things. The open areas of the units had air conditioning. They were freezing. The bedrooms in the units did not have air conditioning. They were burning. Again, nobody seemed to be on the same page or have an answer for it. The first day I was there they called maintenance to come in to make the bedrooms colder. And wouldn't you know it the second day I was there they called maintenance to make the open areas warmer. I left after 2 days. It was literally more harm than good. My experience here caused me more trauma than I had before I went in. I am so concerned that this is how patients are being counted, not treated.
I was in the military program here and it was nothing shy of amazing. The female Therapist and all of the nurses were so knowledgeable, helpful and relaxed. This program isn't like prison like other inpatient facilities, I really enjoyed the food staff and my time in the program, and I'd recommend it to others :. ***I do THINK UBH should modernize like other psychiatric hospitals and allow cell phones Copper Springs and Medows AZ. Life doesn't stop in here...this is also a new age, time to adapt, there's a lot of free time after assignments where a quick text or music wouldn't have hurt anything
I was there for just a few days and had to lie to get out. The morning staff in Unit 5 are extremely rude and unsupportive. They lock you out of rooms and you need a "rest order" in order to get extra rest or if you need to have time away from groups/ other patients. Techs don't really know what theyre doing and there were maybe like 2 or 3 that were kind. The bad reviews on this place are pretty solid. Do not go here.
Went here in 2014 when I was a teenager for self harm and suicidal tendencies. Intake staff was friendly, techs were great, food was actually pretty good, and I loved group. There was so many teens like me with similar stories, and we bounded over our favorite bands like Pierce the veil, bring me the horizon, ect. They allowed my mom to bring me books to read, and instead of throwing a bra away I was meh about, they helped me get the wire out. What’s more important, a $50 bra or your mental health? I’ll go with mental health. Any belongs not allowed at intake are held for you till the end. Only complaint I have is my psychiatrist at the time, Dr. Jacobson did not help me at all. He’s only in it for the money, and doesn’t care about patients. I hope they’ve gotten someone better since then. My roommate was also really cool, and I’m glad they kept us separate from the boys but still allowed us all to converse. We even got gym and outside time. We even got to watch tv. It was a chill and A very formative experience. Out patient was great too. Loved Ms.Veinay. This is not a 5 star hotel. If you expect that, you’re a joke. This is a mental health facility. I’d rather go without my usual items to get better health wise. Your life is more important than comfort.
This facility is one of the better behavioral centers we've encountered. My daughter said the staff/techs, food & facility is much better than others she's been to. Whenever I called they always answered and I was able to talk to my daughter daily.
This place is ridiculous. My loved one is in the military unit and everyone is so disrespectful when I try to talk to him. They are charging TRICARE a fortune everyday and still have the audacity to only have 2 phones for like 20 people that are stuck in there. Plus staff constantly give my loved one dirty looks when we’re on the phone which makes him feel uncomfortable. GET MORE PHONES AND STOP BEING GREEDY!
Edit* forgot to share why I hate this place with my whole soul! First off I was put in this place from taking one too many x*ns for fun not for suicide.. I was perfectly happy and was happy every single day.. so why tf they kept me there for EIGHT days I have no idea. They’re money hogs, charged me 15,000 dollars for NOTHING. There was nothing to be helped. On top of that the place gave me strep! Lovely : they also forced everyone to take their medicine even though we had no idea what it was…
i personally had a great experience. i met kind patients and the staff were pretty cool. only thing is there was almost nothing to do and they are pretty strict. the food was okay just DONT TRUST THE EGGS. NEVER TRUST HOSPITAL EGGS.
I went here during 2021. I came voluntarily to try and get better. What I got instead was yelling and screaming. No privacy. Hard bed wasn’t that bad and food wasn’t that bad but we were just given meds. We weren’t told why or what for. I later realized that my diagnosis was never given to my parents. At the time I was a minor. No one cared at all but one Tech named Conner. If you see this thank you for being the one to care
