Almost 50% of all Fire Service Line of Duty Deaths are cardiac related. Under The Oath exists to reduce this percentage as well as the number of injuries.
As firefighters we swore an oath to serve the communities we work and live in. Part of the oath was to be prepared to answer the call whenever we are called upon. The job we do is risky, dangerous, and demanding. We can not become complacent even for a moment. I truly believe that you can never train hard enough for a job that can kill you. When we truly live Under The Oath we must be emotionally, mentally, and physically strong, if one of those areas are lacking then we put ourselves, our brothers and sisters, and our victims at risk. In my years in the fire service I have seen the lack of commitment to keeping ourselves in good physical condition. It is now time for us to raise our standards and live UNDER THE OATH.
