Creating a regional food and agriculture system that benefits local land and local people.
The UNI Local Food Program is located at the Center for Energy & Environmental Education. The program offers technical services and networking opportunities for local farmers, buyers, and consumers in the region. Jodie Huegerich, local food program manager and Northern Iowa Food & Farm Partnership coordinator, facilitates the program. Financial support for the UNI Local Food Program is supported in part by University of Northern Iowa, ISU Extension Region 9, Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture, and other grants.
The mission of University of Northern Iowa’s Local Food Program is to make locally grown foods more visible and easily available for residents of Black Hawk, Benton, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Grundy, and Tama counties. By working with local farmers, institutional buyers, community leaders, and consumers, this program strives to create a regional food and agriculture system that benefits local land and local people.
