United Campground is a family owned and operated RV Park and Campground, on the banks of the Animas River. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad runs right through the park, and we are located right on the Trolly line to town. We offer 100+ level sites with water, electricity and sewer, and 90 tent sites with grass, free hot showers for registered guests, general store and gift shop, and we are pet friendly. With plenty of shade trees, this place is perfect to get away, relax and enjoy the views, while being close to town and all Durango has to offer.

Campground is well kept. Shower house was great. Right on the narrow railroad line which is fantastic. I had a vehicle failure and had to go back home and get a different one. I asked to get two more days of camping if there schedule would allow. They worked it out and i do appreciate it very much. Only negative i would ding them on is this. The locks on the shower house are a pain in the butt. You need a light to see them and the locks are in my opinion junk. I fought with one the other night for about 5 minutes. Replace the locks. Likely will be back.
Nice campground just on the outskirts of Durango. Nice folks to check you in. Campground sits right along the Durango narrow gauge railroad line. You can wave to people on the train. No commercial train usage so no disruption at night. Nice pool and clean laundry. Shuttle will pick you up to take you to town if you want. Clean campground and roomy sites.
Have stayed here twice now in the past year and plan on staying again this summer. Absolutely the best campground I have stayed at. Facilities are clean and ample to handle the amount of traffic. Never had to wait for a shower. Laundry facilities on site and a short 3 minute drive and you're in town. If you are not up for driving, there is a free town shuttle with a pickup location at the entrance to the camp. Clean tent camp sites that are well spaced apart. Quiet with mature shade trees to cover your tent during the day with the calming sound of wind through the trees at night. The owners are extremely friendly and accommodating and a pleasure to talk to. A truly family owned and operated business that makes you feel welcomed and at home.
We have a trailer. The first time we were staying at a campground. Lovely spot with shaded trees, clean bathrooms, showers, a heated pool, and friendly people at camp. Trolley right in front of the main office. Easy bike path to Durango. The train passes by the camp, which we don't mind. The view to animas river, cows and the mountains is beautiful.
They pack you in. This is a parking spot and a plug. Clean bathrooms. On the train tracks. No access to the river. Seems like they could make more space. Tent spots were plentiful. And lots of shade. But not over the pool. Customer service was short but fine. Not a warm welcome. Not many other choices in Durango and I guess they know that.
Stopped in here to tent camp on our way to the Weminuche wilderness to backpack for a few days. This place is beautiful! The tent camping sites are at the back of the property under a canopy of trees, with soft grass that is irrigated to keep it lush to sleep on. The bathrooms and showers were very clean. There is a heated pool as well. The only negative maybe is that the Durango/Silverton train runs right through the middle of camp! Thankfully it only runs daytime so it shouldn’t interrupt any nighttime sleeping. Highly recommended!
For several years now we have been coming to this camp ground. Never had any problems. We have always called for Reservations and never had a problem until this July2023. We made reservations for 4 nights and we were aware of the policy that after 3 days you will need to move your tent to help protect the grass. In the past it was just move the tent a few feet to let the grass rest. On our last visit we had made reservations for 4 nights, on our last day we were told that we had to completly move our tent/camp to a different site. So we did as we were asked, packed up all our camp, and moved to a new location. We were told it was so they could water the area where we were at. When we returned later that day in the exact spot that we moved from there was a tent set up. Needless to say we were very upset as it was a hassel to pack all our gear and move when we could have just moved our tent to a different position at the same spot for ONE more night only and pack up and leave the next morning. We have been loyal customers never complaining or causing any problems while we have camped there, but this time the experience was very different and it is very obvious that they are not worried about loyalty but making money, but not investing that money in any improvements to the bath houses or laundry etc as there were several things that needed attention. So if you are just wanting a place to camp for one night, it is an acceptable place, but don't expect common courtesy of allowing you to stay at one camp site if you are staying longer. Also while we were there Our son came to visit us, he was spoken to very rudely as he was not a registered guest and wasn't allowed to proceed to our campsite without checking in with the office. He was not aware that he needed to do so, as we forgot to inform him, but still did not warrant the way it was handled. Needless to say, after this last experience we will no longer be coming back to United Campgrounds.
RV and primitive camping level, shaded by huge trees, beautifully maintained, clean park. Trolley bus available to historic downtown, whitewater adventures, Walmart, hospital, etc. Dog friendly but no dog park. Views of Animas River viewable from many sites along with great mountain view. Elk and deer walk right through campground. Nearby activities: Durango Silverton Rail Station, restaurants, breweries, whitewater rafting, kayaking, off leash dog park, off road mountain trails, biking trails, hot springs. Noteworthy details: Durango Trolley Bus system stops at campground every 20 minutes and will take you anywhere you want to go. Free during summer months. Operates from 6:55am - 8:35pm.
The bathroom shower cut off pressure during the middle of my shower it turned back on in like 5 minutes, but everything else was wonderful. The staff were nice, and the view of the Durango & Silverton trains was AWESOME! I got to see our own pop-up camper when we rode it!Rooms: 5/5
The good… Location is pretty good for Durango area. The bath house was quite clean and showers are hot. The grounds are very attractive and well groomed. There are lots of laundry machines always available. There’s a free trolley service right next to the campground that can take you to town. I recommend that since the parking situation for the train is a mess. The bad… The Durango narrow gauge train rolls through the campground daily. Prepare yourself for a loud and violating wake-up call around 6:00ish every morning. The campground advertises free wifi, but that’s just dishonest because the wifi is as good as useless. Service is quite poor here for Verizon users also. The lower bath house has only one toilet and one urinal for all of the tent sites. The campsites are all very close together, so no real privacy. You are close to the river, but there’s no direct river access nearby. Overall, not horrible, but I feel they have clear areas to improve on. I would stay again probably.
