If you have a small side business, packages can be dropped off and placed in a small area on the counter within the Post Office before being scanned. However, customers have no way of knowing, sometimes for days, whether a package was scanned, or even received. Packages just pile up on the counter and the customer has no receipt assuring them that their property is now in the hands of U.S. post office personnel. You just leave your package in an unsecured area hoping that it will end up in the hands of a professional by end of shift. This is an incredibly inefficient, risky, and primitive way to do business. No other business operates this way. When you drop something off, the Post Office should provide you with some type of a receipt acknowledging that they now have your property and are responsible for it. Whether they use a self scanning system, or a simpler method, something needs to be put in place to make customers feel comfortable about leaving their property at the Carlisle Post Office facility. It's more than just a professional courtesy. It's good business!
Extremely rude staff. I asked for a simple request to pick up priority mail and due to their own mistake, they were being rude to me to pay an additional $8 postage fee. I didn’t have to pay the fee but the entire experience was awful and the staff, including the supervisor, was being rude to me even though I was cooperative and was asking them to do a simple task.
Visiting the Carlisle Post Office on Louther Street is exactly like going back in time to the 1970’s. It smells like an old school post office and it is just as inefficient as I remember it to be back when I was a little kid.
Avoid at all costs! Sent a package, had it marked as return to sender, and it simply vanished. Tracking claimed it was out for delivery I don’t even live in Carlisle, they’re not my post office! and it never made it back. I talked to Carlisle, they told me it got shipped to my local post office. I talked to the local, they said it never entered the system and gave me papers proving it. I went back to Carlisle and they said there was nothing they could do and it had simply disappeared despite last being in their system. How many other packages are simply disappearing??? Wholly unhelpful and speak to you as though you’re wasting their time, even though they messed up.
Always understaffed... can never get someone on phone... always long lines. Don't understand why they can't keep people. I assume bad management and bad wages and no work life balance.
This has to be the worst post office in the history of the United States. Rude people working in a forward facing customer service position is unacceptable. Our tax dollars being flushed down the drain.
I’ve mailed about 350 packages from this post office over the past 2 years. Aside from the understaffing and somewhat long lines at peak hours first thing, lunch, 3p-end of day, I have had little issue and am usually 9 times out of 10 back to my car within the free 15-minute parking meter time limit. There are 2-3 employees who have been working the front during this time. There are currently 1-2 newer employees who are efficient and have good attitudes toward work, so hopefully they will stick around and work through the customers who don’t realize these employees have no control over delayed/lost packages, mail carriers who quit, or customers who don’t complete proper forms. During the past 3 years, I have noticed our regular mail carrier has rotated/changed 3 or 4 times. The carriers have always been courteous of our property and placed our packages on our porch as we’ve requested. On my end, I make sure my yard is clear from the mailbox to porch I even clear a path in the snow during winter and will occasionally at least once per week meet them in the yard or at the mailbox when they are delivering. As far as lost packages/undelivered mail goes, I have not experienced undelivered regular mail yet. We have had 100s of packages delivered and they are handled with care by our regular worker. There have been 10-20 instances over the past 3-4 years of issues with tracking packages or packages seeming like they are lost in the system. Each time, I use the USPS website help request form for missing mail/packages, and have received email contact by the end of the next business day. There is an “additional comment” section and I always specify where the package was last and where it needs to go. There have been 2 instances when I requested phone communication, and within 2 days I have received a phone call. I’m my work experiences as a case manager, counselor, marketer, and court liaison, I have learned that yelling and acting out of anger rarely helps resolve a situation. I have never felt like the post office in Carlisle has been discourteous or disrespectful towards me as a customer or resident of Carlisle. Especially around holiday times, I try to remember that many of their packages are basically delivered by the pallet especially from Amazon. I try to remember there are hundreds of millions of pieces of mail being handled daily, most likely hourly, all across the country. Yes, I am egotistical and want my needs to be met, but in the grand scheme of this country’s logistical infrastructure, I ultimately am one singular data point that is pretty much insignificant, and I will fall into the margin of error every once in awhile.
Delivery from this post office is a nightmare. My latest packaged was tracking as “out for delivery”, then changed to “delivery attempted” which is odd because we were at home and the package didn’t require a signature, and now they expect me to pick it up in person. Not the first time this has happened.
The carrier for the area I live in quit. They are down positions. Mail hasn't been delivered in a week. Time sensitive mail taxes, mail-in-ballots, bills are not being delivered. Employees at post office are not following up. No answers on when you can go to pick up mail. The Carlisle post office is chaotic, disorganized and a mess right now.
I tracked my package, it’s been sitting in the Carlisle post office for the past eight day, why ??? This has to be the worse post office in the country. When I track, the date keeps getting pushed out and says “pending acceptance” Why ?? When you try to call nobody is helpful.
