I've watched this place go down in quality of service from the time I first moved in. When I first contacted UGA two years ago their service was fantastic! However, now I can no longer say the same. The management has changed at least three times since I have lived here which made it difficult to get acquainted with the constantly changing office staff. Since the third management change, my rent has been incorrectly charged three times because of their "lack of previous payment records." Their mail system in the office is absolutely ridiculous. My boyfriend had a package in the back that had been sitting there for two whole months before they realized it. They've also made the claim that our lease was incorrect and we should be charged a monthly water fee. Which was never mentioned in the previous years that we have lived here. We've only had to pay for electricity. Thankfully they agreed not to charge us for water unless we renew our lease for next year. Not going to happen. The worst part is how poorly the residents treat the facility. There's garbage everywhere in the parking lots. I just saw an entire package of frozen chicken legs laying in a parking space today. Also residents do not like to pick up after their animals. My building always smells like weed, and there's always empty liquor bottles on the stairs. On top of everything the maintenance crew has gone from excellent to absolutely horrid. I used to be able to put a work order in and have it taken care of within a matter of hours that same day! Now I've put in three work orders and have yet to hear back about any of them. My toilet hasn't been able to flush properly for three months and just today my garbage disposal no longer works. My boyfriend and I have already looked into moving somewhere else. So glad I'm moving out. OH P.S. One thing that is kind of important, the heating system should NOT be up against the ceiling, and the AC should be above the window...The heating and cooling system UGA has in their units is ridiculous. The heat stays up at the top of the rooms while the air conditioning can't properly circulate meaning be prepared to pay out the butt for electricity.
I lived at University Green for 3 years. It was my first time living on my own, and the price and spacious floor plans are what appealed to me most. The first year was great; they had a fitness center, the pool worked, and all of the doors locked! The second and third year is when quality really began to decrease. They closed the pool and anytime I asked about it I received a "next week" answer. They also offer free wifi and sand volleyball- either of which they actually have. The hallways always reeked of something unpleasant. Once someone vomited on the front sidewalk and they refused to clean it up! The doors have not been working for now over 3 years. I used to call at least once a month and remind them to fix them. Now, two people have been murdered and seriously injured. If the owners weren't changing every other month I'm sure the maintenance requests would be done quickly. It seems that not management companies or owners communicate with each other, ever. It is worth to pay a little more for safety and things that actually come with the apartment.
If I could rate with a negative star system than I would. I have lived in UGA for the last 3 years and the experience has been piss poor. With no exaggeration, this is the worst apartment complex that I have ever experienced. The crime has risen dramatically over the past few years in a sense that causes me to fear walking my dog outside. Don't even think that you are going to have somewhere to park unless you are blessed with a 9-5 job. There seem to be college parties every single night, so expect to either be waken up by loud music, girls fighting over boys, or police sirens/lights. The maintenance is the worst of it all. I have put in a work order EVERY DAY for the past 2 weeks simply to get a door knob replaced and they have not showed up yet. Ironically, every time I leave for work in the morning, I see the maintenance people cleaning up debris off of the grounds, yet they cannot get directed to perform job duties that they are actually trained for. The staff in the leasing office is the worst of it all. They are very unprofessional, and act like they don't want to be there at all times. They never answer the phone, will give you the run-around even if you simply ask them what day of the week it is. The hallways are disgusting. It is very common to find tobacco or cigarette butts on the floor despite being a smoke free complex. Also, numerous holes in the shared hallways that always smell like weed, piss, or throw up If you're lucky, maybe a combination of it all. The pool is supposed to be open for Memorial Day-Labor Day, that of which it never is. The leasing office is open when they want it to be, often closing before they are supposed to. They will issue you a notice of eviction despite the fact that you paid your rent in a timely manner. Though this one is not exactly your fault, the package deliveries are a hit or a miss. The carrier will either completely disregard even attempting to deliver it to you and automatically deliver your package to the leasing office and most of the time you won't even get a notification that it is there, or the carrier will leave your package in a common area such as the main door's porch, or the common stairwell for someone to steal. Pros: The layouts are really nice. My apartment is very spacious with an ample amount of storage areas. Your neighbors will be your eyes and ears for you when you aren't there because they will be hoping that you do the same thing in return. The cream of the crop is the rent. UGA is probably the most cheapest complexes in the area, so it is very affordable for college students. But be aware that this is indeed one of the situations where you get what you pay for.
This is the worst place ever to live. The management has changed 3 times since I've been there and each time ever worse. There are constantly people being robbed or hurt. 4 cars including mine were broken into on Christmas Eve. All the while security is standing outside having casual conversation with the local pizza man. Initially when I moved in there was a lot of patchwork done to the apartments that slowly showed up in my first couple of months there. It took forever to negotiate a transfer to a new apartment. The management changed about two weeks before I was supposed to move in, after calling to update the new management company they were completely confused but agreed to give me the unit. On the day of move in found out that only a few short hours before they had given my unit away to someone else and refused to fix the mistake offering me a smaller unit. This smaller unit though would cost more than my current unit, and they would cut no deals for me. I decided to stay in my unit asking that they make sure all of these issues were fixed, again came in to do patchwork. Now asking to leave the apartment they are asking for 2 months rent along with any discount that I've received on my rent. So 8 months with a 195 "discount"on my rent. Which totals my next 4 months of rent there. There has been burglaries, murders, fights, and constant fear that at any moment someone could decide to come into your home and or car and steal everything that you have worked for. Of course there's crime everywhere but let me assure you most of it happens in university green apartment homes. If you have any other alternatives try those first LET UNIVERSITY GREEN BE THE LAST RESORT BEFORE HOMELESSNESS.
This is the first time I agree with all the negative reviews on an establishment! When we moved in a year ago, a woman from the cleaning company UGA hires was still inside the apartment, saw me, said "I did the best I could with the time I had" and just left. There was pet hair everywhere, the carpets hadn't been cleaned, toothpaste still on the sink, clothing tags and BB gun pellets on the floor, broken closet doors, you name it! We complained to the office and they sent the cleaning crew back and got the carpets cleaned, thankfully. But they didn't fix the closets, we had to get a work order that took days for them to come. The manager was very nice, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. The carpet in the hallway is consistently dirty. Someone vomited in the hallway and it stayed there for a week until I had to take it upon myself to tell the office to get someone to clean it! The community here is definitely loud... Loud music that rattles the picture frames on our walls, boisterous parties in the parking lot on week nights, honking cars peeling out of the parking lot at 2 in the morning, etc. We have had to call security multiple times due to fights in the parking lot that have turned into violent fistfights. You have to watch where you walk because pet owners leave their pet feces on the lawn. A lot of weed smoke in the hallways. As many reviewers have mentioned, you get what you pay for-- living here is cheap. But I do not recommend this complex! Avoid it if you can!
I'll start with the good. Their apartments are big for the price. That's about it. I would not recommend anyone move here if they have any other option. I referred someone to the building as I was moving in. This person mentioned my name when they moved in. I never saw the money I was supposed to receive for referring someone. They said it was because nobody ever wrote down a record of my referral. They generally seem to be very unorganized. Paying my rent has been an issue every month. The neighborhood is awful, but this should come at no surprise. The buildings are in horrible condition. Don't be fooled by the model they show you. Laundry machines are scarce. I guess you get what you pay for, but I still don't consider living here worth the price. The fire extinguishers for both my apartment and a friends were both expired.
If I had the money to break my lease I definitely would. I thought that this was a nice first apartment until it came down to getting any work done. A tube in my bathroom had burst and left the hallway carpet soaked overnight. Maintenance came to soak it up, but the floor was still pretty wet, but they said it must dry on it's own. A few months later I began seeing mold in my unit. I told the office and someone came out to "clean" it. It came back again, so I talked to the manager Sheilya who kept trying to make it seem as though it weren't mold. She stood me up a few times and didn't even have anyone in the office call to notify me that she wouldn't make the meetings. She doesn't always return my calls. She as well as many others in the office are very unprofessional. I didn't move out of my unit until my bed was ruined, which she said she would replace, but did not. I had to stay in a moldy apartment for 2 months sleeping on the living room floor the carpet was also damp due to the mold by the way. I could not leave my clothes in my dresser because the drawers had mold on them, and I also couldn't leave anything in my kitchen cabinets due the mold as well. I would not recommend University Green to anyone. I'd rather go spend more money for a complex that would actually do their jobs.
I have requested in the office and directly to maintenance staff close to 10 times over the past 2 months for the ceiling above my shower to be repaired. It is rotting away. They did come to fix my tub which was peeling only because it was mandated by the city of Ypsilanti, but the repairman took apart my tub and never put it back together leaving a mess all over the bathroom floor. I would prefer if someone would come finish the job, but if not I want it on record that I have made multiple attempts to get this fixed before moving out this July.
*Please take the time to read this before even CONSIDERING applying* Part 1: This is by far the worst management I have ever encountered. To shorten a story which takes place over the course of almost 3 months July to September of this year, I have witnessed nothing short of lies, attitude and unprofessionalism from the staff working at the University Green Apartments. After applying on their website on behalf of my boyfriend and myself $50 each plus a $100 admission fee, I receive a call from someone in their office who wanted to get in touch with me about my guarantor signing paperwork, which would require another $50 for her to "apply" on behalf of myself. At first I thought "Wow, they went out of their way to reach out to me. They must really care about their residents and stay on top of things". This was clearly my second mistake, my first would be disregarding all the horrible reviews I had read about these apartments. Anyways, we set up an appointment with her and came in the following week, 3 weeks before I was supposed to move into this apartment. Before touching pen to paper, my mom asked if this guaranteed me the apartment, to which the woman replied hesitantly that there were about 14, yes 14 applicants in front of me for the same singular apartment unit. That means they allowed 13 or more people to go forward and pay additional fees, knowing full well they wouldn't stand a chance to be accepted. I could not believe what I was hearing. My mother spoke for me, saying how it wasn't right that they advertise apartments being available when they are not. An older woman working in the management office chimed in saying how they in the office have no control over the website and what it posts. When we looked up the website where it said there were 10+ units available now, she explained how the building had burned down from a fire that happened several months ago and whoever was in charge of the website failed to update that mistake. I called later that day to retract my application and asked for the refund the woman guaranteed me of the $100 admission fee. She said it could take up to 30 days, but it would be automatically refunded into my bank account.
I'm confused reading the other reviews because my experience at UGA has been very different. I normally wouldn't post a review about anything, but I feel like my side of things needs to be heard by potential residents here. I have had little to no issues at UGA. Yes, sometimes it's loud at night. But I've lived on the other side of EMU by the water tower and it was just as bad. MY neighbors are friendly for the most part, as much as you would expect strangers to be. The people in the office are always nice and polite and my phone calls are always answered. I had my air conditioner break last October and two maintanence men came to me apartment same day and brought me a brand new unit with an energy saver feature and a remote. Much nicer than the one that was here originally. Other than that I've had an issue with my bathtub leaking, fixed same day. When I was stupid and got something stuck in my garbage disposal, they came and were polite and fixed it right away. Now for some negatives, the washer and dryer on my floor have been broken since I moved in over a year ago, but I just go to a laundromat or a family member's house to do laundry anyway. The pool is probably a scam since I was here all summer and they never opened it. And sometimes the water temperature in my building can be touchy by becoming ice cold or really hot in the middle of a shower. But it's a really cheap apartment for it's location, I have a ton of room and closet space, they let me have pets, free heat, and I'm a college student looking for cheap rent. Not expecting perfection. It's good enough that we signed on for another year.
