Our program trains students to become exemplary providers of primary care medicine with a focus on the medically underserved and rural populations of NM.
The Physician Assistant Program is administered within the Department of Family & Community Medicine. Student instruction is provided by physician assistant faculty along with integrative instruction with the School of Medicine. Students will spend a large part of their mornings in basic sciences lectures and labs given by School of Medicine faculty and at least 6 hours in small group tutorials in the PA classrooms. Afternoons are devoted to PA classes, workshops, and clinical skills.
A Master of Science degree will be awarded upon successful completion of the curriculum.
The mission of the University of New Mexico Physician Assistant Program is to educate Physician Assistant students to be competent providers of primary care medicine with a special focus on the medically underserved and rural populations of New Mexico.
