The University of Vermont Liberal Arts in Prison Project (LAPP) is a multidisciplinary effort to offer on-site college courses to incarcerated students at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility and the Northwest Regional Correctional Facility. Spearheaded by Director Kathy Fox and housed in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), LAPP is a demonstration of the University's commitment to its land-grant mission, active engagement in social justice, and deeply held belief in the transformative power of a liberal arts education.
Our work is guided by the Bard Prison Initiative's Consortium of Liberal Arts in Prison. UVM is the first public institution and the first land-grant university to join the Consortium.
