CENTER FOR GLOBAL STUDIES
Bringing the World to Wyoming and Wyoming to the World.
Finding practical solutions to complex global problems
The Center for Global Studies at the University of Wyoming brings a world of possibilities to UW and the state. The Center looks at the implications – from local to global – of evolving international challenges in these program areas:
- Energy, Water, Food and other Transboundary Challenges to Security
- Environment and National Resources
- Economics, Finance, and Sustainable Development
- Ethics, Human Rights, and Justice
- Leadership and Governance in Global Policymaking
The Center will accomplish this mission by providing access to funding and expertise, leading to expanded and enriched international experiences.
The Center for Global Studies (CGS) advances the University of Wyoming to the next level of excellence in internationally-focused research in order to find solutions to complex global problems. Its mission is to enhance international competencies at home in order to prepare Wyoming students – particularly the 90% who have not had an international experience – as well as faculty, communities and businesses to compete and succeed in a global economy. The Center will tap the potential of interdisciplinary, collaborative, and international expertise at UW to invigorate faculty interactions, faculty-student international research, enrich teaching, and to serve as a central ‘clearinghouse’ for global academic expertise at UW. This Center, with links to the social sciences, humanities, and STEM fields, provides a model for creating and enhancing:
- faculty research opportunities as well as the hosting of international experts/practitioners;
- graduate education by establishing graduate fellowships to attract and reward top students doing international research;
- international fieldwork, research and internship opportunities for Wyoming students; and
- outreach, speakers, and symposia at UW and around the state – particularly in partnership with Wyoming’s community colleges.
The Center seeks to accomplish internationalization by providing access to funding and expertise, leading to expanded and enriched international experiences.
