Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium

About

Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium provides public and private shows centered around astronomy, physics, and science in general to both educate and entertain!

Description

The Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium is located on the beautiful campus of the University of Wyoming in Laramie, WY and is operated by UW's Department of Physics and Astronomy. The planetarium was recently renovated with a brand new, state of the art digital projection system thanks to the generous donations by the Windy Ridge Foundation and their owner Harry C. Vaughan.

We have shows open to the general public every Friday night at 7:00 pm with either a Laser Light Show at 8:00 pm or a free tour of our STAR Observatory (Laser Light Shows and STAR Observatory tours alternate every other Friday).

We also have shows open to the general public every other Saturday at 11:00 am. These Saturday shows are geared towards children and following every show is a free activity - from creating your own telescope to designing spaceships! Bring the whole family! Children under 5 years of age are always free at the Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium.

Doors open 20 minutes prior to the start of the show.

Tickets are $3 for students (from pre-k to doctorate) and $4 for non-students. Children under 5 years of age are free. Tickets can be purchased at the planetarium at the time of the show and can also be pre-purchased by visiting the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy Main Office, room 204, on the second floor of the Physical Sciences Building or online here*: http://www.uwyo.edu/physics/_files/docs/planetarium%20ticket.html

*All tickets pre-purchased online are $4.

The University of Wyoming Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium is located in the basement of the Physical Science building. Enter the Physical Science building at the SW entrance, go down the stairs and follow the signs pointing to the planetarium.

Physical Science is located at D 10 in the above map.

In addition to our public Friday and Saturday shows, we are able to do private shows for groups. The University of Wyoming Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium is a great place to bring your class, club, or entire grade.

Our shows are typically one hour long although it is very easy for us to modify the time as needed.

Learning about the planets or stars? Constellations? Galaxies? Let us know and we can cater our shows to your topic. We also always offer general sky shows for a great introduction to astronomy.

The whole family loved this! The instructor was so endearing with his awkward humour and wry wit. He managed to engage and include the entirely of the audience at every step and also, my 7 year old sat enthralled and participating! for the entire hour long program! Will return. The hint of a laser type show at the end was very cool too I just have to add. Ty!
Awesome planetarium! It was very comfortable and not out dated. Max gave us an awesome show through our galaxy and out through the universe. Thanks from myself and the Classical Conversation home school group!
Max did a great job showing us how the Earth is actually a Cube and not Flat. We actually learned a lot about black holes and had a great time. I hope Max's girlfriend is ok with him using a story about her Hamilton Beach blender mishap to explain plasma ejection... I think he mentioned it 3 times.
I loved the presentation for Forrsday. The dubstep telescope video was amazing, the talk about black holes made me question my life decisions up to now and consider becoming a physicist, and the cube world theory is a compelling alternative to flat earth. Xoxo
Remodeled a few years ago and the seats and projector are great. The. Weekly shows are very informative.
Great place to visit. I took three different classes here and the shows were great.
Turns out the earth is round. Normal world, I guess.
Loved the light show!
