I spent a week at the hospital while my son was being treated. One of those nights being in the ER. Staff is absolutely wonderful here. They're so helpful and you'd be surprised by how many things they have access to to help. I came into the ER with my son for respiratory distress so it didn't bring my pump. Being a breastfeeding mom not only did they provide me with three meals a day but they also provided me with a pump to use in my room. It stayed with me and they stored any breast milk that I bagged. My room had its own bathroom and shower. No shower curtain just kind of weird and the water pressure sucked but hey it's a shower. So I was grateful. I took a picture of the sink that's in my room as well. It's rather large and made it really helpful when it came to washing all of the bottles and pump items. They even provided me with a bottle brush and dish soap. There is a PS4 in the room. I tried turning it on once but couldn't figure out how to get the TV to switch over to it so it didn't really mess with it. Food here is what you would expect from hospital. There are some good options though and they tried to be very accommodating to my Dairy allergy. First night here we spent in the ER. Got to the hospital at about 9:00 a.m. and didn't get a room until the next day around noon. We were in a shared room and even though I was here with my 3-month-old they put him in a regular bed. I had to pay to nurse when I wanted to use the restroom because I was so worried he'd move and fall out. Even with the railings it's very nerve-racking. The room was really small and cramped and it was shared with another family. There was nowhere for me to sleep. Just a small little chair that didn't have arms. And if I wanted to sit in it I was next to the sink. But at the time I know the hospital was packer and i did find myself grateful to at least be in a room. If you are there for your very little babies I recommend getting some links. I brought them and was able to clip them to the crib and it helped him a lot.
The nurses and doctors were absolutely amazing despite being overworked, and understaffed. We arrived at the ER at 5:30 and got into a room around 10 or 11…. We ended up being admitted and stayed in the same shared room until we were discharged until 2pm the next day. My baby was treated with so much love and respect, and most of the day time doctors and nurses we re so fun and kind, and the night time nurses and doctors were very kind, helpful and respectful. My only problem with this place is that, if they’re going to use what seem like triage rooms for multiple patients at a time they should definitely have more than thin paper-like partitions. Or at least have more than two or three panels to separate families because I felt like both my family and the others that were placed in this room two different families at different times, and the room was THOROUGHLY cleaned in between didn’t have much privacy. I’m a breastfeeding mom and would have appreciated being able to carry-nurse my baby without a man and his son watching me or feeling awkward by it. Updated: it’s a day later and I had a super bad reaction to their food never again.
We had to go to the Pediatric Emergency Room in this building because our daughter had stopped eating and was very dehydrated after oral surgery to remove some teeth. The staff in both the emergency room and the upstairs overnight pediatric clinic were absolutely phenomenal. They showed genuine care and problem solving when it came to making our daughter feel better and improve her health. It's only been two days since we were discharged, and she is already back to her happy and goofy self. The relief I felt as a parent that had to watch their daughter become more and more lethargic and worsen each day, then to start eating after only one day in the hospital was overwhelming. Thank you, everyone, at Upstate for your work with getting my daughter back to being happy and healthy!
I completely understand being busy. I understand patients with fevers etc come first in triage.Im not blind to needing to take patients first who are sicker or injured then the next. But me and other parents watched as your pediatric ER skipped over people waiting all morning to see a Dr for people who just came In and kids were laughing n playing. Meanwhile other kids including ours are crying in pain and also sick too. Kept getting pushed back. I even got upset for another parent who came in after us and had a teenager non stop throwing up get shoved to the side as well. To take back patients whose kids were playing. Didn't look sick at all or hurt. Your welcome for the money to park. No child should be waiting 8 hours in the waiting room.people that came in behind us asked how long it might be and you told them don't leave it won't be long. That was 3 hours ago. They left too. I respect and appreciate our hospital staff. I support you all. But you need to really retrain how your triaging patients. Toddlers still screaming in pain. Headed to another hospital.
My wife took our son last night to their ER. They made her wait about 6-7 HOURS and not have a doctor see our son. Our son was in pain and waiting to be seen. There were people coming after my son who were admitted to a room. They need to get better at taking care of children who are our precious ones.
Day nurses are amazing and go above and beyond for the patients and family, night nurses on the other hand wake the babys up all hours of the night even after the Dr says not to wake them up and then makes the parents deal with it keeping everyone sleep deprived
This place is a JOKE! They have absolutely NO communication to the doctors to the nurses! "U can grub hub something for him" .. hes INPATIENT I shouldn't have to provide my child with gluten free food! Not to mention we slept in the ER for TWO days! And we didn't even have to sleep there the second night. By 5pm on Friday we were admitted on wed the doctors figured out they gave my son the test he needed the day before. Like come on!!!! But the KICKER IS they prescribed my son a med that ISNT APPROVED for children!!!! I will be raising hell by the way we were treated and the incompadince that hospital has!
Answered the phone, "Who's there?" Not very professional, I thought I had the wrong department like a Cafeteria. AI would have been more courteous.
Sat with my son for 8 hours in the hallway while he had a broken thumb with a laceration. Nobody came to check on him. Triage nurse didn’t even look at the injury.
My son and daughter were involved in a bad car accident on the NY/PA border. My 7 year old son died at the scene. My daughter, 11, was life flighted to Golisano from a local hospital after she underwent an emergency surgery to remove her spleen. She had major brain swelling and never woke up. The doctors, nurses, chaplain, and every other member of the staff treated us and my daughter with so much care and tenderness. Even though that was and always will be the worst week of my life, I appreciate the care that was provided by Golisano. The doctors and nurses even came back in after their shifts had ended to participate and pay respects to my daughter in her walk of honor before she went for her organ donation surgery where she was able to help 7 people across the country continue to live. Below is a picture of my 2 angels, Zachary and Trinity.
