I've never had a problem at another post office and I frequently go to the River Grove, Elmwood Park, and Franklin Park locations. The only 2 times that I've had to go to this one, I've had issues. This morning, the woman at the counter seemed convinced that I stole my own company's check and refused to let me use it to buy stamps. She claimed that she couldn't take the check because it was dated for last week. This would be fine, except we have always paid for stamps this way and have never had an issue at the other locations. We've had to change our bank account number 3 times in the last year because of the postal service's incompetence but, when it comes to taking time out of my morning, all of a sudden they have an abundance of caution.
Never before this have I had any issue getting postal money orders at a location, and they’re useful for things like deposits and first month’s rent for an apartment complex. So, I’ve used this means in the past. First, the worker on shift here today balked at doing the form for the money orders and told me it was “online.” Then he balked at the amount and said I couldn’t get that much money. I asked how much I could get in a day, and he started pretending I was trying to evade the process/paperwork as if to suggest some untoward behavior on my side. Luckily, his coworker manager? walked over and clarified that he can, indeed, do the normal process of issuing postal money orders right there at his station and there was no issue with my requested transaction at all. So, he starts the process, but meanwhile there is another citizen behind me who is way too close for this private transaction, which includes the transfer of a lot of personal information like name, birthday, address, and even SSN to the postal worker. The postal worker does not say a word to this man about waiting in the designated location and instead ignores that the man is breathing down my neck while this process unfolds. To make matters worse, the man was himself very rude - expressing his impatience with waiting his turn by swearing loudly under his breath at such close distance behind me. His behavior was inappropriate, to say it lightly. When I turned to address him and remind him the line in a post office is not right at the counter within the personal space of another customer, he lied that he’d been told to stand directly behind me overhearing all of my personal info. The postal worker did not ask him, even then, to wait in the appropriate location. Mind, he’d come into this area after I’d already approached the counter, and the postal worker there had not asked him to wait in my personal space during a private transaction. All I’m saying is if you need to have any privacy of your transaction at all, you want to pick a location with better trained staff. All I’m saying is, if you need to get postal money orders, the man who works here will treat you like you’re trying to commit a crime.
Today I had a very pleasant experience at the USPS in River Forest, IL. Two kind employees went above and beyond to help me out with a package! Thank you for your outstanding service!
The wait time is getting worse. There are NEVER any parking spots because staff is parking in the customer lot. There were 3 people in the post office when I walked in to check my PO box and NO parking spots. Can staff park elsewhere maybe partner with the medical center across the street? So to summarize, you wait in your car for a parking spot and then for 20 minutes or more inside. Occasionally a senior staff member who works the front counter is extra rude, perhaps it's time to retire or move into another role.
No matter the time of day pandemic or no pandemic the wait is always horrific not the staffs fault as they are never staffed properly. I have never experienced more than one employee working the counter and the line is never less than 6 people deep. They should be staffed properly at all times but especially during a pandemic when the last thing any of us need is to wait in line a minimum of 15 minutes every single time we have to visit the post office. Come on post office staff them properly.
I like going to this post office. The staff are really good and professional. Only reason I can’t give them 5 stars is a lack of the ability to pay using Apple or Android or Tap payments. Hopefully they’ll update their systems soon.
I had no issues at this post office. The gentleman that helped me was very patient .
Very lovely employees. Although the supervisor is harsh, the others very nice. Especially the one who named Faith, all the stars to her, very kind, cooperative and patient.. thanks for your help :
No mail for the past three business days. 600 block of Thatcher. Our regular mail carrier is a gem, but we haven't seen him in at least a week. Calling the 800 number yields only a canned message about COVID19 and its impact on their staff.
That guy on the counter needs to be fired.. rude and he actually closed his window so he wouldn’t have to assist an alder lady
