Utah County Sheriff's Office City Volunteers in Police Service - VIPS

Description

UCSO City VIPS

Volunteers in Policing Service (VIPS) is a nationally recognized program committed to developing a spirit of cooperation and partnership with the community. At Utah County Sheriff’s Office (UCSO) City VIPS we recruit, train, and retain talented volunteers from diverse backgrounds to participate in meaningful community safety, security, and service programs in addition to emergency response situations.
We respond in emergency situations. We control traffic due to accidents, fire, and assist in finding missing persons. We support an active community in crime reduction and cost savings through general visibility and social media (Facebook and twitter).
We have responded to a wide variety of emergency incidents including wildland fires threatening city homes, vehicle accidents with injuries & fatalities, SWAT incidents, lost children, aircraft crashes, missing persons, horses loose on the highway, many accidents blocking traffic, and DUI incidents/vehicle impounds. We take an active role in these situations. We enable deputies to focus on resolving incidents and help ensure the safety of citizens and law enforcement personnel. Our time is donated to support public safety efforts.
We save taxpayers money and protect the quality of life in our community by augmenting the existing emergency service capability in our city. We also support the efforts of law enforcement through community programs like speed trailers (speed traffic awareness), traffic control, safety advocacy, public safety awareness and education.
VIPS members work alongside sworn officers. Volunteers work in the community in VIPS vehicles or their own volunteer vehicles. Among the various service duties the volunteers perform are: Directing traffic at accident scenes, removal of debris in the roadway, waiting for wrecker on vehicle accidents or impounds, shuttle paperwork, keys, equipment and assisting in finding lost or missing children, recovery of found property, motorists assists, fun runs, bike rides, community events, parades, and more.

Membership in our organization requires regular service hours each month.
