I am very happy with the care I am receiving at the Crown Point VA. I was assigned a women's doctor the first day I arrived and got in with a doctor within a week. My doctor was very helpful and thorough with my medical history. The staff is helpful with guiding you where you need to go. I also received a welcome folder with all of the VA healthcare information. Thank you to all of the Doctors, nurses, and staff for caring our wellbeing.
I've been assigned to this clinic for 26 years. Overall, very reliable and respectful service to Vets, but there's always that "few" that sometimes makes it unpleasant. I urge other Vets to get over those few, I've seen some of them eventually weeded out. The Lab and the Pharmacy are fantastic. You may have to wait, but they are really good, considering the volume of patients they have. I've had the same General Medicine Doctor for 20 years at ABJVA. She's Great. My Doctor in Mental Hygiene is very good also, even though I've had her but for a short while. X-Ray techs rank out highly to me, also. I would go Five Star for the entire Facility, but certain ones there stop me from doing that. I ignore them and let the true caregivers/professionals do their jobs.
I only use them for pharmacy services and optician. Otherwise it's a civilian doctor. I refuse to go to Chicago for ANY reason, that place is a circus and my dad can't walk. It's just too much for a 15 minute appointment that was doing nothing for him anyway. My dad moved here from St. Louis. He said the VA in St. Louis is the BEST he's ever seen. They have swimming pools, bowling alley, gym, you name it there!
Better than any private medical facilities. Wait time is a third the time of private, the cost is 1/20th that of private and you have a primary that will keep in touch with you daily if you need to talk to him through a email system that they will answer within 24 hrs by rule. The medical service and the quality of service is far and above the private sector because their income is not dependent on how many people they can see and how many procedures and surgeries they can get you to go through whether you need it or not.
They take care of vets. However, faxes with important test results cant get through. Fax appears to normally be down. I had a breast biopsy done and no one could get the results to them at all. When I had a mammogram different day I had to interfere to get the faxed results in as the place I had the mammogram tried several times to fax to them to no avail. You can not call and talk to a Dr. Even when you may have cancer. The calling center will shift you around for at least 30 minutes before you get a person that sounds just like they don't want to help you and they will not help. You will even get shifted to a phone that will never be answered. Even though my case is cancer related I was told I had to wait for over 14 days before a call center person could request results. Terrible.Tthe call center and their rules absolutely are the worst. Most of the call center people will treat you like you are an enemy and they need to stop you from doing anything at all.
The service is awful. Can never get anyone on the phone not even to your pact. I've been without medication for 2 weeks. Always get transfered to Jessie Brown where you wait on hold for 30 minutes. Adam Benjamin should be closed or completely revamped. They do not care
Although I am a veteran as well, I’m writing concerning the treatment of my Father, John Adams. He’s with Jesus now but, he spoke well of the VA crown point. He was particularly impressed with his Dr. at the time... I believe her name was Dr Carol. If she is still around, I would love to contact her. I accompanied my Dad on many trips to CPVA. Hopefully the staff etc was good to him as well. To all of you... to Chicago Va, univ of Chicago hospital, etc. I thank you all for helping him live longer than originally stated. From six months to ten years. Ten years of treatments etc, but also ten years of seeing his daughter’s graduations..his Grand Children grow...drive a boat on the Gulf of Mexico... praise and thanks to God.
Waiting for a week to hear about a referral to the ENT. Decided to call them a week later. They have no answering machine and never answer the phone. Finally got a hold of some one who couldn't care less about talking to patients. Told her I had a referral and was trying to setup a meeting to get looked at. She said I need a referral and hung up. I talked to my primary care doctor which confirmed my referral. Never heard anything from either side again. Decided to go private care and got in a week later with a specialist. The VA should just shutdown and reimburse private care bills.
My primary care doctor fell asleep in her office while I was in the exam room waiting to see her. The nurse knocked on her door several times in the course of an hour and a half, and there was NO response. She is evidently a very heavy sleeper. I finally got sick of waiting and put in a complaint to patient advocate requesting a different doctor. The head nurse, who is in charge of the doctors for some stupid reason, tried to get me to go back in for my appointment with that doctor, but I already waited long enough with my one year old child. Women have only one choice for a primary care doctor at ABJ so after about six months I was finally assigned another doctor at the Jesse Brown Hospital in Chicago. The new doctor could not speak or understand English and it caused serious issues in my care, so I am now into my seventh month of waiting and nagging and waiting and nagging for another doctor. Would I recommend ABJ or JB? Hell no. Some of the doctors are awesome, but the entire system is messed up. There is no reason for me to still be without a primary care doctor.
I have had nothing but problems from women's health. The doctor does not respond. My medications are not renewed in a timely manner. No one is tracking my health.
