Vaayu Yoga Shala (VYS) method is based on classical Yoga which stresses the correlation between physical and mental discipline. Vaayu Yoga emphasizes precision and proper alignment in Yoga postures (asanas) to promote harmony between the motor and sensory nerves in the body. The use of props helps students learn proper alignment in a safe and effective way.
Aruna’s father Dr. N.C. Nagaraj introduced her to yoga at the age of 14 in India. As a physician, he advocated the physiological and mental benefits of this practice. Aruna’s study of yoga was complemented with spiritual studies provided by her mother, Padma. Later, Aruna studied hatha yoga with Dr. Anitha in India. She has since expanded her knowledge to include the methods of B.K.S. Iyengar and the Bihar school of yoga. Aruna has been practicing the asanas (postures), pranayama (breath control) and dhyana (meditation) for over 20 years. She has received RYT 200 certification from yoga alliance. She continues to study the advanced Iyengar method of yoga from well-known Yoga Bodhi teacher Elizabeth O’Shea Sullivan and world-renowned Iyengar yoga teacher Patricia Walden.
