Van Buren Mitchell II is a graduate of Norfolk State University where he earned his Bachelors of Art in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice and Masters in Social Work. He has been a champion for youth and families in the Human Service Field for twenty years. He is employed as an intensive in home counselor and juvenile probation officer assisting countless families along the way. Van has conducted youth /adult groups and utilized his affable nature and humor to convey his message. He is qualified in many areas of Mental Health but his passion is children, adolescents and young adults. Van has also enjoyed his time as a volunteer coaching youth sports. The relationships with these youth have spanned until adulthood. Van is the founder and president of Bravado basketball summer league, held annually for the past nine years for all youth. The organization is run on a shoe string budget with no cost for the participant. He has also volunteered his time as a Motivational Speaker for youth and adults on array of topics including education, gangs, academics, delinquency, music and peer association. Van is passionate about his life’s work as a Mental Health counselor and therapist and takes pleasure in empowering those who strive to make their life better.
