In 1966, the communities of North Saanich and Sidney joined VIRL and a branch was opened on Beacon Ave. In 1967, the library moved to the Annex at SANSCHA Hall. The library has been at its current location, a few blocks from Sidney's downtown, since 1982.
The Sooke branch of the Vancouver Island Regional Library system was established in 1963. For more information about branch use, visit our Sooke Branch Fact Sheet.
The Port Renfrew Library Branch started as a book deposit station in 1964. The library is located at the Port Renfrew Community Centre and is open year-round.
